Haha.... looks like the OP is still active (though maybe not on this thread).

My advice if he hasn't gotten the car already: if he knows the true costs behind owning one, and he's the one forking over the cash (which, based on previous posts, it looks like he is), let him get it. And by the true costs, I mean everything. Insurance, gas, maintenance, gas, repairs, gas, etc. Here's a helpful thread.

There's something about working hard to buy something you really want and calling it yours that makes us cherish it that much more. Add some rules with it though. Something like it has to remain stock and he has to get all the groceries every week (maybe not pay, but he has to drive you to the store and back). Any errands that need to be done? Guess who's driving.

Otherwise you could make him a deal. Something like you'll help him out with buying a new car if he can wait it out until after he finishes college. People change what they like. When I graduated high school, my favorite car was the 2nd gen Mitsubishi Eclipse. By the end of my first year in college it was the G. So by the end of his first or second year, he may want something that just came out.

Buy him a G sedan, it attracts a lot less attention from the cops.

Didn't read the whole thread but if you live somewhere that snows a lot I'd look for something else.
