Hows it going everyone? My first post here. I came from CumminsForum (Dodge Diesel trucks). Anyways, sold the truck and bought my coupe. I am pretty excited to start learning more about them and working on mine. Its got 70k on it right now and I'm about to tear into it next friday. Heres the list of whats going down:

- Right lower control arm
- Tie rod ends
- All new tires
- Coolant flush and all new hoses
- Drive belts
- Plugs
- In cabin filter
- All new rotors and pads all the way around
- Air filter
- Oil
- Battery replaced

I took it into the dealer to have them go though the entire thing and tell me anything that stands out (also did a few recall items). They said everything looks good except the sloppy front end. So I'm gonna clean that up, change the plugs and all that just for piece of mind. If you guys can think of anything I should tackle while I have it all torn apart I'd be really appreciative!

That's quite a change from a big azz Dodge truck to an Infiniti G35 Every thing on your list of things to do makes sense. With your mileage I'd be replacing the trans/differential fluid too unless you can find some record that it was done at 60K miles which is what Nissan recommends. G/L

Yes it was a big change.

The trans was actually just done at 65k, dealer showed that in the computer. Didn't show anything on rear end though, ill service that.

Do you think I need to do the cooling system yet or could I hold off for a few thousand more?

 

I though you said you flushed the coolant? You should also change out your power steering and brake fluid if that hasn't been done(done at every 30k). Did those wheels come with the car?

 

How much did the dealer charge you for all that? I think thats the real question here.

 

I only took it to the stealership for the free diagnostics they do. I just wanted to know everything they could find and also see what records they had on the car.

I haven't don't anything yet, I ordered the control arm and it'll be here Tuesday. So I'm planning on doing everything black Friday once I have all the parts ready to go. That's why I asked if I should go ahead and do the cooling system or just wait till the next maintenance.

When doing the coolant flush make sure you bleed all the air out or your car will overheat.you can use a Leslie coolant funnel to do it

 

Westbank: Ill be sure to burp the system, my first truck had a overheating problem and I am kind of great full for it because it taught me every trick and tip about cooling systems! Ill check out that funnel also. Sounds cool.

Another suspension question: The dealer told me I need compression rod bushings. Are those known as tie rod ends also? Because when I call anywhere but the dealership nobody knows what a compression rod is. Or even if they aren't tie rod ends, is there another name for them so I could find them easier?

It's a different kind of driving. I like it though, I can actually do 75 on the freeway and be comfortable. Not used to that at all

Welcome to the family! Not many here have complained about having issues with tie rod ends, so you should be good there and they are definitely different from the compression rods. Weird that no one knows what the compression rod is, that's exactly what the FSM calls it. You have a couple of options there, just replace the whole thing, or buy aftermarket bushings and have the old ones pressed out and the new ones pressed in. A few companies make quality aftermarket bushings, and with the reputation of the OEM ones wearing out I would replace the bushings and not buy new rods.

Definitely replace all fluids that haven't been replaced in the last 30K miles and enjoy your new ride!
