How does car title transfer & registration work?

I traded in my car for the G two weeks ago from today. Took out a car loan from my Credit Union. The way it works is the dealership will send the title to the credit union right? The problem is I'm still waiting for my registration card so I can get it inspected. How long does this process usually take?

Your Credit Union should be in direct communication with the Car Dealership.

If they are then, the car dealership will register the car under your name but the Lien holder would be your Credit Union.

The dealership can then print out a temporary Registration ( should be taped in your window ) that temporary registration will tell the cops that the vehicle has been registered and just waiting for the DMV to mail out proper tags.

It all depends on how fast the DMV responds... sometimes its just a few days and sometimes it takes them weeks.

What do you mean by getting it inspected ?? Smog ??
