i noticed smoke on really hot days vs the cooler temps i guess the oil temp has something do do with it

ok so basically all my asumptions are correct, myself included this is the 3rd case where Test Pipes were installed not tuned and smoke began. im not saying that they are connected but its pretty strange to me that this is the 3rd ive heard of....

def check the oil level after 1000 miles on new oil, if its more than a quart low your in the zone where infinit would have replaced your block but itl be a way of telling you how much oil you will need to add between changes atleast

im curious, if test pipes on the DE with out tuning for an extended time/miles could start excessive damage in the chamber weather it be the cylinder walls or piston rings thus causing the famous OC issue

myself and one local before installing test pipes had no OC (<1 quart between changes) but after running test tipes for a few weeks there was smoke and 1qt per 500mi of consumption

i know running test pipes makes you run lean, but i'm pretty sure i was consuming oil before running pipes. just couldn't see the smoke since the cats were installed...

well yeah its "normal" for the DE to consume oil according to Nissan but im talking over their limit of 1qt per 1000 miles

but like i said theres 3 cases of normal OC before test pipes and then terrible OC after running them untuned..... i dont remember any smoke until i had at least 1200 miles on the ART pipes then i was a rolling smoke machine

haha i know. im one of those "cases" but i was running lean before test pipes. i had spacer/intake/exhaust and when i got dynoed at church's they already told me i ran lean before the test pipe install. so i agree with you that art pipes lean you out so much that it makes oc more extreme

same here had all the typical breather mods...... looking back i would have waited to throw everything on at once then tune may have been able to save me the trouble and 2mnths down time while the new block was installed

yeah the crappy thing is i have a 04 not even a rev up. i didn't buy a 05+ cause i didn't want to get oc. got it anyways haha. but i'm in the process of oc testing. hopefully it eats enough oil where they'll replace it after the first time. thank God for extended warranty!

Like HotelCrazy said its your valve stem seals. A compression test will not detect valve seal problem.

If smoke goes away after warmed up than your rings are not the problem.

If its a manual see if it smokes while shifting gears, that will also be another indication of seal problem.

Valve seals tend too leak during high vacuum condition (idle, shifting, highway cruising).

Check your spark plugs, that will give an indication of how each cylinder is burning oil.

When I was buying the car I learned that the rev up motors were the ones with the problems...that's why I was happy with the 03...but something like this would happen to me lol.....I really need to get this figured out ASAP

Oh and my car is manual

And again absolutely no smoking today....it's about 83 degrees out too

Any dramatic change in your gas mileage? I'm just wondering... possible that you're dumping fuel and running super rich?

With 123,000 on the odo I think you're probably experiencing normal wear and tear. Don't think it has anything to do with the 2005+ OC issues. Do you know how well it was maintained and how many owners there were during the 111,000 before you bought it. Just be sure to watch your oil.

Just a quick update for those who are having the same problem...after the spark plug change, it hasn't been smoking as much....but still smell oils burning, and can see oil burning, been about 1000 miles since oil change and it's about half way on dipstick now

read the tsb and you can figure out consumption rate, you measure how far down the stick the oil is from high mark in millimeters and look at the chart

I'm going to chime in here since I'm one of the other "cases"

I put TP on my car just before she turned 100k miles. Car was meticulously maintained, always synthetic oil with less than factory recommended change intervals. I have a pre 05 DE engine. Installed on the car were : Stillen Cat Back, Motordyne 5/16 spacer, then ART Pipes.

500 miles in she started smoking pretty badly and had already consumed 1qt. Was scheduled for a tune, but cancelled it, changed the oil, spark plugs, put OEM cats back on. The oil I removed from the car wreaked of gasoline. After all that it sill consumed oil like mad.

Long story short, I've been using conventional motor oil since then and the problem is slowly solving itself. Everything can be found here ---> https://g35driver.com/forums/g35-sed...ate+road+*****

Not saying that this is the cure all, but it's worth a shot.
