I am looking to buy my wife a G35 or EX35/FX45/FX35. I have read yours and other forums for hours and realize there were issues with oil consumption and frequent electrical issues related to radio/circuit board/ribbon cable etc. Through all my reading I have not been able to determine when or if Infiniti ever corrected these issues and if so what year model. Can you folks please advise if there was a year model that these oil consumption and electrical issues were addressed / resolved. Thanks so much for any help.
I think the oc issue only affected the revup motors- so basically Manual cars. I don't believe the high rev motors in the 37s have this issue and the initial de non revup didn't have this issue. If you get her an AT you don't need to worry about oc.
The wiring thing... Frankly that's news to me.

Thanks. I had about come that conclusion on the OC being only related to manual cars from what I had read. Nice to hear that confirmed. The wiring thing I spoke of is apparently related to the stereo head unit in the beginning yet creates additional gremlins throughout the dash components and climate controls. This apparently started in 2003 models but seemed to be prevalent for several years. I just don't know if or when it was corrected. Bear in mind, I'm just going by what I have read on this and other forums and reviews. I claim no personal experiance. I'm just trying to decide what would be the best year model to try and avoid such issues. Since I will be getting an automatic the OC part is a moot point now. Thanks again.
Honestly slim- on that note... The thing that always appalled me about this car (I'm an 06 sans nav) was the dated appearance of the stereo so it was one of the first things I swapped out- changed out the whole head unit, upgraded the interior speakers and was happier than heck I did. Might be why I never had any trouble.
Quite often when I've read about electrical it was someone buying a modded car- that had godknowswhat done to it...
Doing that, you may lose your steering wheel controls for your stereo- but I never really noticed that anyway.

The AT has an oc issue in relation to the problem with the o-rings in the valve cover, it's hit or miss whether a car has this problem or not. The only way to tell is to remove the spark plug boots and look, if you hear sluuurrrrppppp instead of pop when you remove the boot you don't need to look. It's pooched and you need a new valve cover. I should say you used to need a new valve cover because the o-rings can't be removed until someone McGrubered an excellent diy repair to replace the one bad ring..
This oc problem has only shown up on the driver side valve cover on cylinder 6 if I remember correctly, that's where it was on mine when I looked and found the plug tube half full of oil. Luckily my car was still under warranty at the time so free valve cover for me. The problem was supposedly fixed by Infiniti on later year '05 & newer models but I'd still check all tubes if I was buying a used G just for piece of mind.
Since you'll be buying used you should write down the VIN and phone Infiniti to see if the car is subject to recall/s or anything else before signing on the line, it could save you some hassle down the road. Good luck in your G hunt, the girlfriend is going to luv you long time more than she does now.

The wiring problem is news to me also.
Thanks much Doc. Good detailed info that I will be sure to use in my hunt. Does the same issue by chance apply to EX35s? I learned about the electronic issue by doing a google for "G35 problems" .
Thanks again
