+1, my friend bought an as-is BMW and after 1500 miles the tranny crapped out, that's major in a BMW and he probably could have totaled the car for the price of the tranny.

Yep, I'd stick with the G35 unless you're rotating through new BMWs every 3-5 years to always have it under warranty.

yea 335i are a crap shoot, gf bought a used one from the dealer and fuel pump failure and oil failure was able to use the lemon law, then we just forked the money to get a new one and its been bullet proof

Buying a used BMW without warranty is crazy. But that sucks that the other dude picked it up. Good luck finding a sedan though

BMWs are much more reliable than most other luxury brands. They aren't that bad really. The annoying thing is the extra tools needed to work on them though.

In the beginning of their life at least maybe. That's all JD Power says about them. And Lexus is also 10x more boring than a bimmer (in looks and driving dynamics). BMWs are fairly reliable. Much much more than Audis. More than Cadillacs. More than Jags. More than Lincolns... Less than the G35 though. And actually, the M series is even more reliable than the regular 3 series.

Yes, BMW as a brand has improved its reliability but most of our answers to the OP are specifically about the 335i. The car is crap. I have had mines for a lil over 7months and it has been back to the dealer 4 times for repairs. Twice for the HPFP alone. I had my G for 4 years and only had to have something major fixed once. The 335i is notorious now for a laundry list of issues, it is almost as bad as the early 2000s A6. Unless you are leasing, buying brand new or getting an all inclusive extended warranty... STAY AWAY. Get an E46 M3 if you want a performance based BMW. It's on par if not better than the 335i in every way as far as performance goes stock for stock. Yes the 335i is easy to mod and get incredible power but if you do mod it you will only run into more issues.

I have an E46 330CI with 70k have owned it for almost 5 years 35k miles and besides a cam sensor going bad the car has had not one problem besides normal maintenance. When we bought the car we looked at the new body style and said no thanks I want a BMW that will not Break My Wallet.

+1 on a E46 M3 being a better over all car than a 335i
