Exhaust advice

About 6 months ago I got an oil change, and Infiniti did a "complementary try to find expensive problems test". They told me my exhaust had a leak at the Y pipe, and that it would cost somewhere in the neighborhood of 800 dollars to fix.... YAH RIGHT!

So now I want to make a move on a new exhaust, I'm not sure if I want to just get new tips and have the leak fixed, or get new pipes all around. I love the clean sound that stock has, and I've heard so many clips where it sounds way too deep aftermarket. What brand should I go with if I want a bit more of an aggressive sound than stock, but nothing crazy deep? Thanks in advance

You might just get an aftermarket y-pipe and take care of the leak and get a better exhaust note in the bargain.

I have the same leak, right in the flex pipe. I took the insulation off and saw the accordion shaped part underneath had a couple cracks.

Aftermarket pipes are between ~250-500, nowhere near 800. Not hard to install either if you have a low enough jack.

youtube is tough to actually distinguish the sound. i prefer hks, invidia, stillen, or motordyne. honestly, as long as you dont buy a knock off, you'll enjoy it

"complementary try to find expensive problems test"..I like that. I just got one for $2200 for rear sub frame differential bushing leak. F*** that! I just had it checked by 2 different shops. Guess what? No leak! F*** Infiniti!

About 2 months ago I bought the ark grip true dual exhaust. And absolutely love it. Would recommend it to anyone. I was the same way. Wanted an aggressive sound but not a loud obnoxious exhaust with drone. The ark grip is perfect. No drone at higher speeds. A beautiful aggressive sound especially at WOT but it's not too much. Oh and Frank @ modbargins.com took care of me. He is the man

A brand new y-pipe costs $600 from the dealer.

You can always find one used from any G coupe, sedan, or Z for about a hundred. If you can't find a used one, you can always give an off-brand y-pipe from ebay a try (Megan or something like that).

True, I would not trust many of the ebay products like headers, test pipes, etc... and I would never run an ebay intake either, but we're talking about a y-pipe... we don't need to worry about heat putting stress on the welds here, and copying the y-pipe takes a lot to mess up.

Nismo S-Tune sounds good, it just isn't that loud.

I had a very similar problem and ended up going with a stillen full catback stainless steel system. It looks/sounds great and added a lot of throttle response. I also put in a K&N cold air intake with an ecu chip, great combination.

Do you know for sure you have a leak in your y-pipe? Dealerships often make claims that aren't true hoping the customer is dumb enough to let them install a new part. Have a muffler shop check out your so called leak, most will check it at no cost. Need a new y-pipe, check our MAKETPLACE under vendor exhaust....low cost and fast service!
