Q: Fuel Economy

So as you all can tell im pritty new here, I just bought a G 35 Coupe AT and i was wondering if around 120-150 miles highway per fill up is normal.
I traded in a BMW 323i e46 5MT for the AT and i am thinking that the MT to AT switch is why my gas consumption has been so different.

Now the bmw is supposed to have 18 / 26 and the g35 16 / 23 so its not much different.

Basically i am filling up 3 times per pay period (bi-weekly) now, but in my BMW it was 2 times per pay period. Is that normal or should i take it in to get checked?
bmw
g35

P.S sorry if this problem has been addressed i did a quick search and did notice a thread a few threads down about a TSB with the fuel gauges but im not sure if that applies to me.

You should keep track of how many miles you travel between fillups and divide that by the number of gallons you put in the tank. Then report back

Is that 120-150 miles per tank?!?!?!?

If so, you are WAY WAY WAY off. I'm 6mt, but I can easily get up towards the high 300's - 400mi per tank

If you're truly only getting 150 tops, you have a problem. I always get at least 350 miles per tank, that's a mix of about 30/70 city/hwy

If you just bought the car and its new to you then you have "lead foot syndrome". It happens when you first get the G35. Coming from a 2.3 liter engine to a 3.5 liter, I'm pretty sure you might be driving it harder than you think. Try to ease up on the throttle.

Definitely. My first tank I got 390km. Now I get about 470 with occasional racing around and more reasonable shifting. I could push 500+ if I didn't like driving this car a little wild every now and then.

I get ~600 KMs per tank which is about 370 miles.

How many gallons do you put on your car per fill-up? Gas gauge issues are common for G35s.

Henry got it right, either you're having to much fun at the stop lights or when you get gas it isn't filling up 100%. How many gallons do you normally get when the gauge says full or it tops off?

Gas light came on for me at 668 km yesterday.

Friend with a 3.5 Maxima and a lead foot couldn't believe I get over 400 to a tank.

normally ive been getting 260 miles but i dont let the gauge run down too far past a quarter tank. 400 miles sounds pretty crazy to me.

Filled up yesterday and took pictures of my mileage and the amount of money i put in the tank, and i am going to do the same on next fill up and do the math. I put about 15.4 gallons in ($64.33)... Ill update it in a few days with how many miles i have put in her.

About the lead foot... yes i suppose i do.
