license plate tint laws

I wanted to get a tinted license plate cover but wasnt sure what the law was against it. I would specifically like to know the law for fl but if you feel like adding other states then go for it because it might help someone else lol.

I would advise not tinting the plate cover.

I would advise you to follow this advice OP. One point of a license plate is to make a car identifiable by law enforcement from a distance. Obstructing this will get you more attention than you want- and get you pulled over more than you want.

Don't do it.

Any type of cover on the license plate in IL is illegal. That includes tinted and clear.

In most states it's illegal to have a plastic cover over your license plate, having one tinted would only be a red flag to law enforcement! What are you hiding....?

Agreed, I don't even remember the last time I saw someone around SoCal with some sort of plate cover.

You're just asking for trouble by covering it up.

Jason, license plate frames are cool, we even have frames that say G SPOT on top and G35 DRIVER.COM on the bottom. Plastic license plate covers tinted or not aren't a brilliant idea. I know we heard for someone that has his windows blacked out and tinted cover on his plate but he's giving some Sheriff a reason to unload his shotgun because that's the kinda thing that makes law enforcement nervous as hell. Get a cool frame and leave it at that....Gary

Just gives a reason to be stopped, and it'll usually be when you're running late or have to poop, I woulsn't recommend it.

It's DEFINITELY illegal in Florida. Having any kind of cover clear or smoked will get you a $105 dollar fine probably even more nowadays. Don't do it man. I know from experience. Tampa Florida. They won't give you a warning either.

^I've even heard of people who got multiple tickets within days due to the same infraction. Moral of the story is it's just not worth it.

tinted license plate will not keep the glare out of your eye when your high..just stick to some good dark polarized glasses, you cant get pulled over for wearing glasses.

Lol, were you high when you wrote this? What do sunglasses have to do with a tinted licence plate cover?
