Scam?..

I finally pulled the trigger on a Vortech tuner kit. Made the purchase online through one of Vortech's authorized dealers in New Jersey that had the best price.

Order was processed and money was pulled from my checking account. 3 days later I receive an email asking to provide copies of my credit card statement, valid ID along with the front and back of my credit card either faxed or emailed to them for shipping authorization.

Called my bank to see if they have ever heard of such malarkey and they had not and strongly advised not releasing that info.

I called Vortech directly to regards to this and they also agreed it sounded too extreme, but assured me they are and have been a authorized dealer.

Called the company I purchased from and he compared it to Wal-Mart asking to see a photo ID. Long story short, there was no winning this battle and finally a refund was issued.

What you guys think?

You can always ask them to take PayPal since both parties would be covered and it only ships to a confirmed address. It costs them to take the money though.

Good thinking on the PayPal idea. I will see if they accept it. Just have to wait for the money to hit my account. Their pricing is too good to pass up, plus I believe they are just a middle man and the order comes from Vortech anyways.

I understand they may be trying to cover themselves, but like I said it seems a little too extreme. Maybe if it was just the copy of a valid ID that would be fine, but my bank/credit card statement and the front and back of my card to include signature and security code. No thank you! I'm not applying for a second mortgage. lol!

As far as the company (Ultrarev) is concerned I am not out to bash or call anyone a scammer or rip off artist, but rather just wanted to get others take on the situation. Maybe their policies are set in place to reduce them getting scammed, but I will not give such personal information that could result in it happening to me.

I've been the victim off fraud a few times and it sucks!

I actually talked to Ray. (The director/president of the company) I got my refund in my account this afternoon.

They do accept PayPal and I confirmed that if I re-purchased using PayPal that there would not be any need for the previously requested personal information.

I just re-ordered so we will see how it goes and hopefully it will ship out soon.

Again, it just sounded a little odd and raised a few red flags. So, if anyone places a order with this company and does not want to either fax or email their credit card/bank statement, Valid ID along with the front and back of their credit card for an online purchase, do what was suggested and use PayPal.

I will let you all know how it goes and with any luck I will have a Vortech supercharger soon!

Kinda like the Target survey I got involved in, they asked for my social security number (I give to no one) but the major red flag was asking for my mothers maiden name. Even my bank doesn't know what her real maiden name is. Gotta love scams....Gary

If it is a trusted website and a dealer, then I don't think its a scam.
I've purchased many things online and if it is over 1k they always ask me for statments, id, and credit card.
i have never been scammed before.

but it is easier to use paypal than have to go through that
