No doubt it's a great value, it has to be, for 100K you can buy an M5, 750IL or 650I, way more people walk into BMW dealerships looking to spend that kind of money, the same is true for Porsche, Mercedes, Audi & Jaguar just to name a few others, hell for that you can buy a used supercharged Bentley, Porsche Turbo or a Ferrari F430 so there's plenty of competition in that price range.
well, you talked about visions of "super cars" and then followed up with examples of the LFA and Veyron. The BMW's are luxurious but far from supercar status. Bentley, Porsche Turbo and F430 for $100K? forward the links to those dealerships, I would love to see that.

The gtr buyer prioritizes performance first and worries about what logo is on their polo shirt second.

people who buy the super cars rather than a gtr are passing on the gtr because they do see Nissan as a middle class car, their super car says "hey look what I can afford"
and then there are people who can afford the gtr and then some and don't care to show what money they have so they get a gtr.
then there's guys like me haha.
I'd rather build an awd evo or an sti to make high amounts of awd power for a lesser price.

that's just what I think. nothing aimed towards anybody.

Looks like everyone is getting in on the supercar game...

http://autos.yahoo.com/news/diamonds...195257614.html

Supercars are a common sight in some parts of the Middle East, but until now, that region of the world has gone without an exotic of its own. Enter the Lykan Hypersport, an ultra-exclusive ride from Dubai-based startup W Motors. The upcoming car is said to accelerate from 0-62 mph in 2.8 seconds and offer Lamborghini-rivaling style for $3.4 million, according to WardsAuto.

More likely they remember cars like the B210 or the Sentra when they think of Nissan, It should have been marketed in the US as an Infiniti. VW and Toyota got it right with the Veyron and LFA, rich people want name recognition and Nissan doesn't have it in the US. Great car none the less, I'd buy one if I had that kind of cash to blow on a toy.
Nissan actually stated they specifically did not brand it as an infiniti to not put into the minds of potential customers the thought of luxury. The GT R is a purpose built piece of art with only performance in mind... while it may have room for 4, a large trunk, and overall usability they did not design it with luxury and amenities in mind (which the core concept of the infiniti products).

The nissan brand gives the though of pure purpose... nothing extra. It was always a challenge to command $100,000 for [Ia ]nissan[/I] as it were...

Anyway... these cars originally were priced at/stickered around $80k plus options... i dont think a single new one has sold for that price. The demand for these cars has been high enough to drive the price up.

the Gt-R, love it or hate it, is a mechanical marvel for achieving the performance it does at the price.

I'd buy the GT-R just to overcompensate for my small dick.

Demand? I have a buddy that works at a local Nissan dealer, I bought my car from him. When I picked up my car they had 1 GTR in stock, he said they'd had it for 4 months. He also said they had sold 2 over the last year (2009-2010). Price was msrp + all the rest of the garbage they charge on top, just like the rest of their inventory. I just did a quick auto trader search for Phoenix, which is where I am, and 4 new GTR's are available at or below msrp, 0 above.

Deepdiver, I was just pointing out those brands build something outside of their target consumer's interest and market them with a boutique nameplate.
A quick search with AT or carsdotcom with a max price of $110, it's amazing what's out there.
No argument on the BMW, they are a luxury brand and offer nothing near the performance of the GTR, but I'm amazed at how many 750's 650's and M's I see, all priced around the GTR's msrp yet I never see any GTR's? My only guess is that the approximately 7000 people that own them don't drive or live somewhere else.

Well they did state in articles that the car is meant for a very choice market.... not be ordered, but to be invited to have at a fee.

Additionally people from Moscow and India have expressed interest. I guess the Italians are satisfied with their Zonda and mericans will always just buy covettes bc the ZR1 for literally 3% of the cost of the W Lykan still produces the same 0-60 time just with less rubies in the headlamps

If I wanted something super expensive and from a new manufacturer. I would get the Danish made Zenvo ST1. At least it looks good.

^ +1 I have such a fetish for that thing. When I first saw a picture of the lykan (before reading a single word about it) i thought it was a new car by the Danes.

Well, my bad... i have to consider time and geography. I am speaking of earlier in the cars life when it was first released plus they are still selling around the greater manhattan area for a premium.
