Because thats usually the case. Everyone has different experiences though. And whats the matter with potty humor? Trolling is what keeps this forum entertaining.

Are you serious? Your telling me you've never seen any kids in Socal who's parents practically paid for their cars/college for them? Maybe its because I attend a lot of car meets, I see many spoiled little brats driving cars that they would not be able to afford on their own. Even in PA there were many high school kids who had hand-me-downs. And I was implying $10K is what you can find a G for, not the amount most kids save up while in HS.

My first car was a beat up Ford Escort that cost $800 back when I was 17, $200 of which was from my parents. Since then every car I've owned was paid for by me with title in hand.

You'd be surprised. I went to a "prep" high school in Dallas and had friends driving '05 bimmers, Z's, etc. (I graduated in 2006). These friends were quick to admit that their parents bought them the car for their birthday or whatever other reason.

Ugh. Teen's driving G35's. I drove crap cars until last year. Bought my first car (1995 Taurus) using most of my savings. Then later a Suabru which needed an engine and tranny. My parents never spoiled me at all. I bought my own clothes, food most of the time, cell phone and pretty much anything else I needed. I had to get a second job just to pay for car repairs. Now my younger brother who is 11 has a laptop, cell phone, 32in tv, wii, and gameboy. Kids are down right spoiled now.

As of last year I moved out of military dorms are living on my own with my wife who doesn't work. Never seen so many expenses in my life.

But it's great how I saved for years, went on a few deployments, and payed 17k for an 06 G35 to hear teens are driving them. Most idiot drivers I see are very young and I wonder how they can afford rims. Then I see them pull into Moms driveway.

Im young, actually just went on 6 months having my license that i got the day after my 16th birthday. I was blessed enough to not have to pay anything for my coupe, neither did my parents. I have learnt the two main problems of having this car.

That deer population and my bumper are not great friends.
AND
That if you're going fast the ladies cant see the car, so i go slow enough for them to get at least a glance.

That's not surprising at all, I grew up in the bay area and have seen many nice cars driving by high schoolers. But those are like you said, straight bought by the parents for the kids.

He mentioned kids getting allowances or something to get them up to $10k+ to buy a car. That seems a bit ridiculous to me.

Several of the kids I mentioned did buy their car from the allowance provided by the parents. I had friends getting one or two thousand every week or so.

I've never seen that, seems really odd that they would do that... Giving the kids a credit card that the parents pay as well as buying cars/clothes/etc. for their kids was almost standard at my high school, but I never saw parents giving their kids $4-8k a month in cash... Especially when they would be the ones buying the car for the kids anyway.

This. I hate how high school kids with nice cars are all pigeonholed. A lot of them actually had to pay for their vehicle, and they can occasionally even drive more carefully than some adults, especially if they have to pay for their own gas/insurance (gas prices SUCK). Obviously, this can be picked apart in many different ways. The responsibilities of paying bills, paying for food, providing our own roof over our head, etc are not present. As high school students, however, we can't have a full-time job while in school, so money is not as easily obtainable as it is for some of the older guys with a 9-5.

Granted, I am in no way, shape, or form implying that all high school kids are like this, nor am I saying that ANY high school student is more mature than an adult who actually provides for themselves. As a matter of fact, most of the kids with $10k+ cars were born with a silver spoon in their mouth and drive like idiots. But, there is the occasional kid that is quite mature and is well aware of his boundaries. The idiot that OP is talking about is obviously NOT the latter.

Regardless, glad you and your kids are ok! Hope the guy confesses
