Official Old Guys Rule Thread
For us older dudes, share your stories and observations.
I have three "ricer dudes" (as my wife calls them) on my street that we have barely spoken a word to in three years. After I got the G35 and they saw me out working on it, they now come by whenever I am out working on the car to see what I have done lately. I got them hooked on PlastiDip and they have now done emblems, grills, and one did a pretty nice black on black stripe on his car. My wife says "So the boys are now your friend huh? That should tell you right there that you are ricing out that nice car!"

These guys make custom speaker boxes and do window tinting and are going to hook me up so sometimes it pays to make friends with "the boys" out there.
I'll probably have to teach them how to do oil changes and change spark plugs though.

One has a lowered Lexus, not sure of the model since he took the emblems off. Other has an older Mercedes 320 that is white with all blacked out trim, grill, and emblems, and the other just replaced his car with a newer Scion and hasn't got to modding it yet.
It's good to have sons working with you on your car. My 20 yr old son drives an rx8 and he helps mod my G at the same time asks my opinion on how he mods his car. Nice bonding time with them and we both learn fron each other.
It's possible that they're just fans of cars in general, and see that you are also a fan of cars, and as such figure you all just might have something in common. It's kinda funny that you call them ricers at the same time you claim to have hooked them on plasti-dip though (yes, I saw the pics of your car, you did alright for what it is).
I bet your new friends wouldn't like being called ricers, especially since a Lexus and a Mercedes are pretty nice cars. We're not talking about mid 90s Civics with giant wings and fart cans here.

Good catch Michael. I'm still working on coffee and got riled up (the VA started my day off on the wrong foot, my apologies).
There's always the neighborhood tool exchange and barter system when you get a group of guys all modding something. I've been very lucky to have a guy around the corner swapping engines for several vehicles, a Jeep guy that's a winner with anything drivetrain related (especially u-joints, lol) and several others that combined probably have every tool known to man and can usually save a trip to Autozone to rent one.
And that guy with the old Mercedes (depending on how old is old) can probably school most of us in maintenance tips. It's not easy keeping older German cars running.

Right, my wife call's them "the ricers", I simply call them "the boys". I think its cool to work with them on little projects. I have yet to need their help on anything but I am always willing to accept it and wrench together on something. Now that we have something in common we can relate to each other a little more.
My son has no interest in cars at all (obviously switched at the hospital) so its nice to have a younger generation to help pass some experience on to.

G35 sedan w/ too much money in mods

Kerry I can't believe you made this thread, but good for you. I propose that if you're not 40 or older you can't post in here lol. On a more serious note though my ex gave me so much grief for hanging out with the younger crowd (I'm 50) at car meets and club outings but what she just didn't get is a shared love of anything transcends age/gender/race boundaries. Do I spend a lot of time with 20 somethings, no, but when we're talking cars I enjoy teaching and learning from anyone. Long live the old dudes!!!
My wife's biggest issue is that a lot of the guys here try to meet up late at night (like 9pm) on Fridays and Saturdays. We're usually about ready for bed by then, lol. She's coming around to loving the cars and coffee events though
