Undercarriage damage :(
Undercarriage damage :(
Hey all,
I'm driving a lowered G35 coupe that I managed to drive over what seemed to be a very large bump. The height of the bump allowed it to hit the undercarriage of my car quite hard. I was travelling at roughly 50-60km/h. My problem is that now, every so often during my drive, my car produces a smell that resembles that of a burning clutch, but not quite. I've checked under my car and have found no leaks, but the plastic undercarriage cover that is beneath the transmission is visibly damaged.
Does anyone, especially those with a lowered car know what the problem could be and how much it would cost? I'm hoping that I didn't damage the housing of my transmission and that it's just the plastic melting on the hot transmission.
Please help, the scent it's producing has me worried that I'd be looking at a four digit repair bill.

only way to know for certain is to get yourself under the car and do a thorough Visual inspection...
If you lack the proper tools ( 2 ton jack & jackstands and Whhel chocks) then go to a mechanic and get the car put on a lift...

Something might be caught on your exhaust. Although that would smell quite different from a burning clutch.
As for the transmission housing being damaged, I highly doubt it as it sits fairly high.
Here's an image I took myself that sort of shows how much higher the transmission is compared to say, your cats. I'm driving slammed and have hit tons of bumps at 65mph (100+ kmh) and the transmission is fine.
