Gas cap

Hi. Has anyone had their Gas cap replaced to get rid of a check engine light only to have it come back on a few days later?

What's the check engine code number?

If P0455, there are two other sources for that light other than the gas cap. Mine was the canister purge solenoid under the rear of the car.

But again, what code number did you get?

If gas cap is on and tight, that wasn't the cause!

If the error code was cleared and you replaced your gas cap and the code reappeared that wasn't the cause. There are several possibilities with that code but we always check the gas cap first to make sure it's tight/on. Take your G back, have them recheck the code and other causes...Gary

I'm not sure what the code # is, but from what you're all telling me I'd bet it's PO455. Taking the car in after work and I'll have them check causes other than the gas cap.

Sorry. I got the code number wrong. P0422 is the code that frequently comes up.

http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/G35/Seda...5_Sedan/ec.pdf

Start at page 401 and take note of the code numbers at the top of each page. Gas cap is usually suggested because it's an easy fix, but as you can see, there are other causes.

Ask the shop for the code number, or spend $20 and buy yourself an OBD2 scanner
