TPS blinking after 45 min

Howdy, so my 2004 G35 sedan sets off the TPS at around 45 min of driving. Temp and tire pressures don't seem to solve the problem. I have tried, 27 lbs, 30 lbs and 32 lbs all set at cold air temp (mornings), night driving (cooler road surface) day driving (hot road surface). Note each time I shut off car the TPS resets to off and will come back on only after 45 min of driving.

Wheels are 18" with Kuhmo ASX,

Now , could be fluke and have nothing to do with it... but... my cd player stopped working last sept, same trip, my seat air bag set off warning light (dealer says failed switch in seat). and then of course the TPS, I adjusted tires all good for a few weeks. but after few weeks and since then... I still say its unrelated...but.... throwing it out there..

Any help would be appreciated.

For the airbag light resetting it is as simple as turning the car on for five seconds, off for five, 5 times repeat.

As for the TPMS, have the dealer verify your sensors for free or find someone who will . I bet you one is dead and you are just getting a weird readout.

Thanks

I will try the airbag reset today! I am suspecting one of the sensors.. but I just had all 4 changed out through the dealer 4 or 5 years ago...

thanks again... will try.

These style TPMS sensors have a lifespan of about 5 years. Then the battery dies and they need to be replaced.

Blinking TPMS means there is a fault. There is a way to dump codes by grounding the TPMS wire under the dash. There is a thread on that. There's also a way to reset them by using the same ground wire.

There is a thread on this.

My TPS lasted 10 years before replacing them in four sets of wheels!

You don't need to have the Dealerships empty you wallet to fix your TPS issue! Most, if not all tire shops today have sensor readers that will easily locate which sensor is causing your issue. No, I'm not referring to PepBoys, Sears or Firestone! Watching those mechanics work is like watching a monkey f..k a football!

Yup, most tire shops today can handle TPMS issues. No longer a dealer only issue.

I had a rim swapped last summer by a local tire place and they reset my TPMS system without even asking at no charge. Too bad they didn't know two of my sensors were dead and the light came back anyway.

Update, I upped the cold PSI from 30 (vehicle recommended) to 35 lbs a few days back then parked it on driveway. Yesterday I drove it 45 min and the light came on steady... today I had my 300 mile drive... thought I would be having my blinking friend to keep me company... but nope..TPS did not set off. no light. I think I will drive it around for next month and see if stays away, otherwise I will take to Americas tires... they have done good by me in the past.

One other note, With these Kuhmo ASX tires I noticed if the the car sat for more then a day or two the tires developed a flat spot, few days non use was noticeable flat spot... if more then a week of non use then flat spots very noticeable. now that PSI is at 35lbs. after two days of sitting on driveway no flat spot. Characteristics of vehicle handling have changed somewhat. Anyone else experience flat spots if car sat for a while?

I only run Michelin's, they've never failed me!

Nissan recommends you run 35 psi in your tires and I've always boost that figure by 2 lbs to 37 without issues and my tires wear flat. Maybe by running the correct tire pressure you won't have any issues, time will tell! I haven't heard of tires flat spotting since I was a kid due to just sitting, maybe due to the cheap Chinese construction. Just a thought, "Keep in mind what's between you and the road might save your life!"

How are you determining that you have flat spots?

I have Kumho's on a set of junk rims for my Mustang that I usually store it for the winter on. I let it sit 6 months or so and when I take it out in the spring, I don't really notice any flat spotting at all. Drives smooth as when I parked it.

In fact, I've never noticed flat spotting on any of my tires on cars I've had sit. I've let my G35 sit 3-4 weeks before to, no issues.

What size are your tires? OEM size? FSM for 2004 sedan recommends 30 psi, and anything less than 24 psi will set off the TPMS. This is for the 2004 sedan that you have. Other models are different.

TPMS light blinking for one minute then solid indicates an error communicating with sensors. Typically a dead battery in the sensors. If it goes solid (without blinking first) then you have low pressure in one or more tires.

When one of mine was weak it would do the same thing. Now I think mine are totally dead because the light blinks as soon as I start the car (as if I didn't have any sensors at all).

Yup. That's what mine does now too.

When I "run the codes". It tells me two sensors are dead.

Next time I do tires, i'll install new sensors. Really doesn't concern me now as I still check tire pressure the old fashioned way and it's not worth it to me to do right now

New up date... my tires size are 245/45/18 and yes I have been getting flat spots after extended periods of sitting still, maybe mine is the exception... and this is what I want to know if I need to get one or more replaced....Today after returning from my 300 mile trip.. TPS sensor came on again... there is no blink... solid light on till I shut off car and it resets. Difference this time is the TPS light came on around at 90 min, I stopped... got a candy bar, now light is off as it reset... and then came back on at exactly 60 min... PSI at 90 min mark was 35, now when I left this morning it was 33 (air temp got in the 40's last night.) knowing that air is denser in cold and pressure would drop I felt secure no air loss and would come back up to 35 as I drove... and it did. From all I read, I will try the following... with the car on I will raise PSI to 41 drive couple times around the block to make sure sensor registers high pressure, then I will lower to 37 and go to the GF house which is 40 min drive min. and go from there... after that... going to Americas tire and see if they can check it out.

I didn't catch this earlier.

Non-OEM wheels? What wheels are you running? What TPMS sensors are in the wheels? Did you just swap them on recently?

Correct Non-OEM wheels, they are 18" in that year I believe OEM were 17" or 16" the latter of which I had replaced with current 18" TPS replaced by dealer roughly around 2010 so I assume they used Nissan from that time period, guessing they are set for 35lbs use.
