NEED HELP! engine swap

I blew my engine on my vq35de REVUP and I’ve been looking everywhere for engine and realized I can’t just throw a normal de in there. So I could either throw a de revup in there, or I was needing to know what it would take to throw a vq35hr revup engine in there instead?? I know the hr is better but would it work?? I have a 2006 g35.

HR is basically the same as any other engine swap, engine/transmission/ecm/wiring harness.

If you want easy keep shopping for a rev-up.

Also just to verify you do have the 6MT transmission correct? The rev-up only came on the manual transmission ones.

Yes I do have a 6MT so you think the hr revup would fit my vq35de revup?

The HR is NOT the rev-up motor. HR = "high revolution".

VQ35DE
VQ35DE-REV UP
VQ35HR
VQ37VHR

All different motors, the two DE model motors have some interchangeable parts but the heads, oil pump, timing chain cover, and a couple other pieces are different. The two DE motors share the same block casting and thus are able to bolt to the same transmissions but the other motors don't have the same bolt pattern.

Also keep in mind the VQ35DE came in two major variants, the transverse (altima, maxima, etc) has wildly different motor mount locations than the longitudinal (350Z, G35, M35, FX).

So with this are you saying I couldn’t fit the hr in my g35 revup?

Lol yeah I've said it twice now I think.

The bellhousing bolt pattern is NOT THE SAME on the DE and HR motors, if you want to put a HR motor in it's going to be the same procedure as any other engine swap, same as putting in a 2JZ, same as putting in an LS, or any other motor that's NOT a VQ35DE.

Stick to the VQ35DE, it fits, the rev-up will literally plug right into everything already on your car.

Again though, the HR motor is NOT the rev-up motor, they're COMPLETELY different, nothing is interchangeable. (EDIT: actually I think the crank and rods can be used in either???)

I just blew not 1 not 2 but 3 de motors just because of too much power, im tired of waisting a lot of money on the swap its a 5 speed. I was wondering if i swapped the hr motor into my g35 would it bolt up to the 5 speed transmission? I have no idea what else i would need for the swap other that the motor. I race the car alot and i also got a state ref so i was just going to sell all de parts and swap an hr in. Later on eventually a vhr and the 6 speed but for now auto. Just need a little help figuring out wtf to do.

Why not just upgrade your rods so you quit junking out stock motors?

How much HP are you making? With rods/pistons the stock DE is good for 600, epoxy filled water jacket 800 or so.

Are you nitrous, turbo, SC? Progressive controller or just full blast NOS ?

The HR doesn't bolt to the DE bellhousing, you would need an HR RE5R05A bellhousing. HR stock rods are only good for 450 or so though.

around 340 crank, ive sold most the de parts because of the ref and im looking for a shitty de motor to pass the state ref. So if i wanted to hr swap my auto g35 would it plug and play with the 5 speed or would i need other things?

Im pretty sure the first motor had bad compression and the second motor was purely a problematic motor and the last one i dont think it had a good tune.

Wiring harness, ECM, trans bellhousing, then there's some issues with the power steering rack which can be modified but usually you swap it for the HR 350Z rack I think.

It's not an easy swap but honestly at those power levels I'd just stick with a DE and get one that's not mechanically compromised.

What exactly failed on those other DE engines?

so exactly what ur saying is to keep the de but change the pistons and rods? The first de motor i think it was purely beat up and neglected before i got it, the second de idk what went wrong i got home from san diego one night pulled into the driveway and it started knocking. The third motor was running too lean and idk i think it had a soft sieze. i have the 2nd de motor in the g35 rn to rebuild or swap out i dont junk the motors i just throw them to the side for extra parts. I need to clear a state ref anyways so ill do the de swap i found a motor for 700 so im pretty sure ill be fine but i need to know how to bulletproof my de motor.

im pretty sure the piston was slapping against the cylinder wall for the first motor idk.

Well at only 350ish brake HP you don't need to upgrade rods/pistons. Did any of them run low on oil because that's typically how you kill a DE, they almost all drink oil, doesn't get checked, 2 quarts low and eats a bearing.

I always flow test injectors on a motor swap just to make sure they're working, you can eat one cylinder pretty quick with a bad injector so I would STRONGLY recommend flow testing a set before using them from any used motor. At very least do a spark plug reading after the first drive after swapping engines.

all de motors i owned got oil changes at 3500 so yea im pretty sure it wasnt oil consumption. At this point i feel like im just bad luck compared to my other homies. They be straight piping their turbo i4's and getting a flame map on stock motor and it still runs better than any of my de's.
