NEED HELP! engine swap
Oil change interval has nothing whatsoever to do with oil consumption. For example, my rev-up drinks about 1 quart every 1000 miles, this is pretty average for rev up engines with 100k on them. If I didn't top my oil off regularly I would oil starve and blow up my engine during one oil change interval.
Most DE engines drink between 1-3 quarts of oil across a 3750 mile interval. You absolutely must be checking oil every 500 or so miles with these engines. HR doesn't drink nearly as much but it'll still be 0.5 quart down at the end of it's oil change interval. High revs only make this more problematic.
It's definitely a lot easier and cheaper power to go for something with a 4G63 or any K series. Same with anything that has an LS. Subies are pretty expensive comparatively. Any VQ engine is going to be expensive to make a significant power gain since they're already so well designed from the factory for the most part.
