Using Revup engine in none revup Z?
I know its not possible just as is. But a buddy of mine blew his motor and bought a revup block by accident. Cant refund. Now, i know that some things have to get swapped over. Were gonna swap over the old heads including the shafts, gears and old chains/guides. Were gonna use the old timing chain cover also. Now is there anything else that needs to be done so the none revup harness/ecu doesnt throw any codes and runs correctly. Also, with swapping the old heads on, is it possible for oil and coolant passeges to not match up or any chance the piston/valve clearence is on the border of contact. I know for a fact this topic has been brought up before but i cant see to find it and I'm actually very busy building another car.
Thanks alot.
Thanks alot.
"the easier thing to do would be to change the front timing cover and use the exhaust timing gears from a standard VQ. then, you should be able to drop the revup motor into your non-revup z.....I may be over simplifying this, but it shouldn't be too hard if you don't want to have the variable exhaust cam timing. "
"If you leave the exhaust cam phasers unlplugged, I believe they will be in a fully retarded position which will cause you to lose some lower and midrange power, but the top end should remain the same.
Of course, you can always swap your front cover, cam gears and covers to the revup engine. Just leave the rear exhaust cam timing sensors bolted into the back of the heads (to keep oil from spewing out of the back of the heads.)
I haven't done it, but evertything should be fine. I have both revup heads and regular heads and there is no difference other than the hole for the cam timing sensor for the exhaust cams."

Hey thanx for the help dude. But in order for the harness to even hook up, you have to have to use the non revup heads because the connectors wont even hook up, even if you extend the PHASE sensor wires.
Besides, the car that the new motor is going in is gonna be up for sale so i cant leave sensors unplugged and any chance of a CEL. I appreciate the research tho. I'm gonna see wht the guy wants to do before i start tearing off the heads. I might take off the timing cover and compaire the gears and cams. the only thing im worried about when swapping over is the actually coolant and oil passeges not lining up and thats not a good thing.

This racial thing is debatable. Please lets get back on topic.
the revup/non-revup heads are almost identical in design. You won't have issues with oil or coolant channeling. The only difference is the timing gear and the variable exhaust valve timing. Since you are using the non-revup wiring harness you won't even have the exhaust cam sensors to worry about. Just get the timing gear set properly and you should be golden.

So swapping the heads and timing parts will work? If im gonna go as far as changing the timing gears, i might as well go ahead and change the heads so the connectors will match up in the back.
