Plenum Spacer Install, Help!!

Got A Plenum Spacer The Other Day For My Sedan.. Tried Putting It On, Seems Like A Pretty Simple Install But Followed Instructions That Came With It Anyway. After Everything Was In Place And Put Together With The Plenum Installed.... I Turn On My Car And It Has Extreme Trouble Staying On, Idled Really Low And Shook Abnormally, There Was Also Way Too Much Smoke Comin Out My Tail Pipes...
I Checked To Make Sure The Rights Size Bolts Were In The Right Holes And All Tightenned Properly And Put In, In The Right Order... Still No Luck.............anybody Have Any Ideas???

Now I Have It Back To Normal But Would Really Love To Have This Thing In!! .. Somebody Help Me Out. So I Dont Have To Return The Spacer....

maybe you tweaked your throttle cable in the process? alot of spacer installs (at least on accords) tend to have an idling/shaking problem if the throttle cable is tightened/loosened during the install. you might want to check to make sure your cable is tightened to stock specs someone correct me if I am wrong

Drive by wire....no cable.

Check all vacuum hoses, check the oil filler neck for pinching, check for pinched gasket. It sounds like you have a vacuum leak/sealing problem.

My advice is remove and replace.

There are no throttle cable issues with the G.

Make sure you don't have anything sandwiched between.
One common problem is the oil filler rubber boot.
It's very easy to get it under the spacer.

thanks for the quick replies guys, i could have sworn i checked all around for possible leaks... now i have it back to stock and it runs fine (no idling problems) when i say it has trouble staying on i mean it idles nomally then would suddenly drop and almost stall out... had it on for about 5 minutes like that .. im confused about all the smoke comin out the end though...

hope to try again this week when i have more time... starting pouring the day i did it...

also.. i got the spacer from gruppe-s.com, when i looked at the spacer sold by motordyne it think they include these white spacers that fit onto the bolts going through the upper plenum... my kit didnt come with these.. dont know whether thats relevant or not...

The spacers fit between the top and bottom of the plenum and take pressure off the top when torquing down the bolts. Some folks have had plenums crack when installing a spacer, and I believe that was the issue.

You mush have picked up the Skunk2 spacer...

I don't know why, but I've heard of people having problems with it immediatly after installation. Stalling, rough idle and such. But yours is the first I've heard of smoke comming out of it.

Did you use silicone to glue it all shut? I'm wondering if silicone somehow got into the engine or went through to the cats.

Thats the only thing I can think of that could potentially cause problems. Otherwise, a simple spacer by itself doesn't have the ability to cause a problem. And definitly not what you are describing.

Could you post the installation instructions?

Mabey there is something about the installation procedure that is causing this. Too many people have described the stalling issue. There is definetly something in common with them all. And I can't imagine it being the plastic spacer itself.

cant get the instructions from the site i got the spacer from (gruppe-s.com)
and im too lazy to type it all out but it was pretty straight forward... i noticed that when i did the install the gasket that is placed in between the spacer and the upper plenum, it wasnt placed correctly... would this cause the leak which would cause the idling/stalling??

That certaintly could cause stalling... but smoke???... I don't know where that comes from.

How flat was the spacer? Did you get a good look at it?
