Rustproofing for G's in the Winter necessary?

As the title states, for those that will experience the white stuff, is it necessary to have the G rustproofed?

Previous searches yield no useful responses.

how long do you plan to keep your car? Where do you live? Is it leased?

I don't rust proof mine (used to years ago) mainly because I never keep them beyond 70,000 miles (which is usually less than 4 years). I also make sure to clean the car regularly in the winter to get the salt off it. BTW, I'm in Southern Ontario.

My 2000 Lincoln LS manual actually stated that Lincoln did not recommend rust proofing.

I agree with Albert, if you are only going to keep the car around 4 years or so I wouldn't bother. Cars have improved with their rusting issues.
If I was keeping it longer I would then get it rust proofed. A couple of years ago I got rid of a vehicle I had for 16 years and it still had no rust perforations (a couple of minor surface spots only). I had Rust Check applied to this vehicle yearly, I consider it one of the best treatments out there.

I'm in Southern Ontario as well. I travel in between Waterloo and Toronto every weekend. I know most European cars like BMW, MBenz does not require rustproofing..

Thanks for your input. I plan to keep this car for a while.. gotta stop switch cars!

I had mine done even though I don't drive it in the winter, but I live in a damp coastal area and plan to keep my car for many years. I'm **** about rust since my first new car in '84 Honda Prelude was completely rotten after 4 years without rustproofing. It had holes in the trunk, wheel wells. Good thing cars have improved so much since then.

Rbull, when you had your prelude, did you rinse your underbody very often during the winter?

No, I learned the hard way. I also had the car go inside every evening so it thawed out then froze during the day again. This freeze/thaw thing along with all the salt we have here in the winter really accellerated the rust. Hondas were also well known rust buckets for about 4-5 years back then with low nickel content in their steel.

actually, several G35 owners have reported rust around the shock towers. I would keep those areas clean.
