I should drive my car more!

ive had my car for 6 months now and i only put on 2000 miiles on it during that time. I always seem to find reasons not to drive the G. Oh, theres not gonna be any parking. Oh, thats a bad neighborhood, better leave the G at home. Oh, its gonna rain hard, lets not risk it. I spend more time looking at it and cleaning it than actually driving it! Im always worried about scratching it or messing it up. Everytime i go out i always think if i should take the G out or if its just better to take the beater out. I dont know what the point of this thread is but a car is meant to be driven and thats exactly what i plan to do from now on.

My G is 6 months old, as well. It has some 8000 miles on it. I am loving every mile of it . . . She is my daily driver. Relax a bit and enjoy your new G.

I think we can all relate at least somewhat to your statement. Actually I'm worse than most -- since my M arrived last Fed., I've accumulated only 3k miles.
LIke you, I find many excuses to not take the M but rather take the 'other' ride. My main excuses are that cleanup of a biotch, short trips are bad for the engine and exhaust system, gas is too expensive, so I'll take the cheaper ride, or even ' I can't be bothered changing cars around to get to the M.
I've even bought another new ride now ('Rolla), to get me thru the winter mess safely.
I easily justify it because I've got no-one else to answer to. It's just as well since a spouse would ask many questions, and may not understand.

One big advantage of limited exposure and usage of my 'special ride' is that when she does come out for a cruise, it's like my first drive in her all over again. lol, indeed, absolutely dilectible. , and at this rate of usage, she should outlast me if I wanted her to.

Enjoy your ride
C.

you work in soho? don't drive your G to work then, and don't ever park your car in the streets there.

Thumbs up

I've only had my G for a month now and put 1800 miles. I have my civic which would be some much better for gas and commuting, but I can't resist not driving the G. I enjoy it too much

A lot of us can relate.....
& I admire your change in philosphy

I have a friend that wanted to own a Jag since before he could drive.
(this was several years ago...)

Well, he finally was in a position to afford one and finally bought his pride & joy.
Five months later, I was surprized to hear that the Jag was gone
When I asked him about it, he said he was worried sick about the car all the time.....parking, scratches yada yada yada...

He woke up one morning & realized he didn't own the Jag.... the Jag owned him.
He traded it in the next day for a Caddy

I feel u exactly on this. My G is always in the garage and theres always reasons to keep it there. Mostly just that I dont want to drive it around running errands or those quick trips where i dont get on a highway or cant open her up. Itll keep her fresher for a longer period of time. I guess its a good thing. It equals less scratches, dirt, and aggravation for me.

It's just a car...enjoy it. The way I see it is..you're G is not gonna be around forever, and neither are you, enjoy it while you can.

^ Right on! It sucks getting the small damage, but it's almost inevitable. Keep it garaged forever and the day you take it out to sell it you'll get chips, etc. Do be vigilant about avoiding high-risk situations if you like, but accept that some damage is going to happen. When you can do that, you'll feel like driving it more. Besides, most damage can be fixed without notice.

I had highly-modified '97 Mitsu. GSX that I owned for about 5 years. I rarely drove it during the summer due to heat. I finally sold it... ...with only 23,000 miles! Sure, it was a great selling point... ...but I paid for a lot more than I used. Oddly, I'm pretty happy to hear that the current owner has only put about 4,000 on it in the past 3 years.

I understand where you are coming from. I have had my Z for 1 year and i have only but 4000 miles on it. Everyone here on the fourm loves there G or Z and we take care of our cars, BUT there are a LOT of IDIOTS that will park right next to you and ding your door up. But then again you take a risk anytime you take it out.

Why buy the car if you cant enjoy it??? Is it just for the pure fact that when someone asks you what kind of car you drive you can say "Oh, i drive an INFINITI" and they say "oooooo" I'd rather let them see that i drive a G. I have 4000 miles on my 4 month old '05 G35s and i love every minute of it. I baby the $hit out of it but like they say dents and scratches are inevitable. I got my first dent the 3rd day i had my G but i got over it and it's not all that noticable anymore. START DRIVING YOUR G and get your money's worth.
