Please Help! - need new tire to fit stock rim, quick!

I just got a flat tonight, and i drove the car home caus i couldn't deal with it at 2 in the morning. I will probably have to order a new tire tomorrow. Please advise which tire will fit the stock 19" rim on the 05 coupe. I need a tire that is cheaper than the original, lasts longer and has the same dry traction or better. I don't need any winter traction. Please help, I will be going to tire shop in the morning! I really hope i didn't damage my rim. thank you.

You want cheaper, better dry traction, & long life? Pick 2---all three criteria doesn't exist in one tire.

You might as well buy another Bridgestone RE050A, especially if your other three tires have alot of life left in them....

You can buy one at www.tirerack.com. A front RE050A will run you $260 + shipping + install. A rear tire will cost $280+ shipping + install.

Good Luck.

If you are only replacing the tire that was damaged, you really need to replace it with the same tire you have on the other four corners. On some cars you can get away with putting on different tires in pairs, but on a sport coupe your tires should definitely be matched all around.

Did I read your post correctly? - you just drove home on the flat?

+1
Have you looked closely at your rim??? You may need a new one of those too
Also, you have to get the same tire as the others. If changing tire manufacturer/type ONLY replace all 4 at once.

i just drove home on a flat. i know its stupid, but i'm in finals period in lawschool right now and i really don't give a f*uck about anything else, i needed to get home to sleep. I am not about to get 4 new tires and tread wear on the potenza's is a freakin shameful. I am probably gonna just replace that tire or maybe just the rears. I really wish someone posted a real solution, instead of general advice cause i have to go to the shop right now. thankx anyways

You got a real solution, you just didn't want to hear it. If you're buying only one, replace it with the same one that's already there. If you still don't give a f***, like you stated by driving on it, just put the spare on and be done with it.

spare is on. but its limited to 50mph and I don't want to keep it for the 2-3 weeks until i'm done with finals. i am contemplating replacing both of the rears to go for a tire with a better tread life even though i have only 10K on the car. if i buy another potenza it will wear out 10K miles later than the other rear. So then I will never be able to make the jump to better tires, because i'll always be only replacing one at a time.

what would you guys do? would you just replace the one potenza? or would you jump to two new rears? if so, which tires would you recommend? thanx again.

Car and Driver had a good review of performance tires in the December issue.

In the spring I'm going to try the Goodyears... their top pick.

i am pretty sure you need a rim too.

word of advise, never drive with flat tires, cause you will bent your rims.

so instead of 8 dollars damage, now it's about $500 bucks.

Great looking tire!

Our factory tires, 225/40/19 fronts are 26.1" tall and cost $260/ea from Tire Rack. The closest Goodyear they have is 245/35/19 @ 25.9" tall. Close enough for Gov't work as this will only decrease front ground clearance by .2". Cost is $293/tire. Not cheap by any stretch, but the tire should last longer and is a much better tire.

Our rear Bridgestone RE050A 245/40/19 is 26.9" tall and costs $280ea at Tire Rack. Goodyear makes the 245/40/19 that is 26.7" tall ($298/tire). I would also be comfortable running their 255/40/19 @ 27" tall. Cost is $287/tire.

Michelin sells the Pilot Sport in 245/40/19 @ $258/tire, that's about the cheapest 245/40/19 on Tire Rack.

Hope this helps....

Just get the same tire as oem. You don't want a 3-1 combo for another x+ miles. Think about it. The tire pisses you off, but the alternative is worse. In another 7k miles get the set you want, plus the $$ in your pocket to make it happen. Look to the sky and say thanks!

thanx for your replys guys, i did a search and found that car and driver one too and a few other threads. so after all that, i just went with the oem one for now. luckily my old tire only had a slow leak and driving on it did not f*uck up the rim but it did make the tire unrepairable. So i guess i will just switch tires at some later opportunity. i am thinking the bfg kdw looks like a good one with a 300 treadwear rating and the lowest cost. i had the goodyear f1's on my last car, although they were the runflats. the potenzas handle better and i don't know how the wear compares, but the f1's wore out super quick, like half a year on the rears. anyway, i was freakin out and you guys gave me some decent advice, so i appreciate it.
