Maintenance Cost?

I just did my first major service here in Canada at 48,000 kms. I was wondering how much everyone else paid. It was very expensive though I guess once every 2.5-3 years is okay. I did the recommend service but added a few addition services which were the brake fluid flush, the coolant flush, and transmission fluid flush. While I've never done these services before in my previous Toyota I figure if they say the fluid is bad, its probably best to do it. I have driven the car hard over the last 3 years, tracking it at least on two occassions. However, since these are necessarily manufacturer's spec'd maintenance, is it necessary? Should I have not done it? The car does appear to shift better and smoother and overall, the car feel practically new again.

if you track your car, maintenance such as changing brake fluid become requirements; some people do it after every session. its a really bad idea to leave it in there unchanged, for your safety..

usaully, those things are only recommended by time or milage. you dont really need all of them, its just a more "complete" job.

Price

It wasn't as expensive as Beowolf listed. Here's what they claimed to have checked:

-inspect and correct all fluid levels
-install fuel service kit (supposedly removes any water from your fuel lines and/or tank)
-replace air filter and inspect wiper blades
-perform complete battery maintenance (charge it? I thought batteries were maintenance free)
-inspect and adjust drive belts
-evacuate, test & refill cooling system (this for the AC not the rad)
-inspect and adjust tire pressures
-rotate tires and inspect condition
-inspect and service brake systems
-inspect exhaust system components
-inspect suspension, chassis, and drive boots
-replace fuel filter
-inspect non platinum sparkplugs
-inspect fuel deliver system
-inspect all lights and horns
-lubricate locks, hinges, and latches
-inspect and adjust full throttle opening
-check operation of all power and manual systems
-perform onboard computer diagnostic. Check with 'consult' and road test

Total price for all that was $437.50 Cdn but my optional service of flushing the rad, the brakes, and tranny bumped it up and after 14% taxes resulted in $824. I figure it is a bit much however, my car is over 3 years old and next time I have to do it is in another 3 years. I figured a thorough check might not bad and I might track it next month or later in the year so it can't hurt.

The only things I think are a bit bogus is the battery stuff and the fuel kit. There were two other things they suggested to service but I declined for now. One was an engine flush which basically cleans the fuel path by flushing some sort of cleaning solution through the fuel rails and also cleaning the throttle bodies. The other was a power steering fluid flush which they claim was necessary because my power steering fluid was dark which I can believe because I was running 18s and 19s which generally was require more than stock effort to turn.

Infiniti in Indy wanted to charge $900 for the 30000 maintenance. Without an oil change it's $600. How can that be? A $300 oil change?
