having a few problems-please help!

hey guys--this has been over the past few days:

i hear a ticking at any speed coming from the rear tire/break area...i think its the driver side but not sure. also when i come to a stop it sounds like an airplane stopping on the runway (something rubbing) I usually hear this at very low speed, like right before i stop (from like 5mph to zero). but all goes away after stopped.
i'm a bit nervous and am not quite sure what this is. my first instinct is my breaks are shot...but i'm pretty sure they aren't.

anybody have an idea? i'm way past my warranty so i'd like to fix this myself if i could.
thanks in advance

The ticking sound -- does it get faster as you speed up? Make sure there's not a rock jammed into your tire treads. Hopefully it's something that simple. Not sure about the rubbing sound, though. Have you checked your brake pads? They're pretty easy to take a look at.
