First time poster, question to G owners.
First time poster, question to G owners.
First off hi to everyone, I've been a lurker here for awhile but don't really post due to my lack of a G in my garage
But have always wanted on, and am currently about to pick one up. But I figured I would get some advice first.
First off, I'm looking at an 03 right now with about 23k on it. Not bad at all, with mods that consist of top secret front end, CAI, 19 rims that I forget the name of, full exhaust and a custom sound system. I believe its 2 or 4 12's or something like that, with the amp or amps of course. I only got a quick overview because I was in a rush.
The car is owned by a personal friend (rich friend at that) and really wants to drop the car, only asking 28,5 with the rims for me. But the car is mint, but my only issue is, its automatic. I think to myself sometimes when its a steal why not? But to the manual drivers, with a car like this should I wait for my stick option to show up. I own a civic right now, it's actually on ebay to get the money for my g, you can see it here CLICK HERE. But with g35, and the power it has now, and could potentially have... am I going to regret buying an automatic? All my past cars where stick.
Thanks if you read all this

I'm guessing it's a coupe?
As for Jersey-G, what do you mean more people complain about the 6MT then the 5AT? If I'm reading this right, he's asking whether to get the Auto or the Manual? If that is the case, depending on whom you ask, the majority who bought 5AT that previously owned a MT wished they got the MT instead.
Now, back to your question. I say, if you like the MT, then I say get the MT. Like I said, there's alot who wished the got the MT, and in some cases are trading in their 5AT G for a 6MT. You can do a search and see who had the regrets and maybe ask them for their input. I say, go drive a 6MT at the dealership and see how you like it. I actually didn't get to taste drive the MT Coupe when I bought my G (test drove the Auto), but knew right then that I didn't want the 5AT. I'm glad I didn't get the 5AT too because right now, I have a 5AT sedan as a loaner while they are fixing my seat rail for the creaking noise, and I totally do not like the 5AT (also I'm not a fan of the Sedan either). Hope this helps.
EDIT: I forgot to mentioned that for $28K for an 03 AND and Auto (doesn't matter that he has all those "extras" on the car), that seems a little high. Remember, almost always adding Mods and what-nots will not add value to the car. So, shop around and see if you can find the same car (with 5AT and 6MT) and see what you like more.

You answered my question perfectly. I'm pretty sure I'll regret getting the 5AT, and yes its a coupe. I've had 3 cars and everyone is 6MT. So, I figure that's what I'll go for.
Thanks for your input, I appreciate it. And hope soon to have my g35

I agree with mephistomyhero.
I would say that transmission type is as big of a decision on this car as any. If you want a 6mt, don't settle.
You may be able to get a better deal price wise also. KBB has an '03 auto at $26,700 in Excellent condition.

I struggled over whether to get an auto or a maual myself and finally decided on the auto. I really wanted to get a manual since they're sportier and something about having control over your transmission is nice.
However, the autos have tiptronic so it's not like you'll never be able to manually shift the car, although there is some lag to the shifting (at least in mine). Everytime I get in my car, roll the windows down and just cruise, I'm glad I went with the auto. It also never fails, every time I get in my car, my cell phone rings and I end up talking to whomever for half my trip (most of the time it's work related, too!) and I don't want the hassle of driving, talking, and shifting.
Why don't you see if he'll let you test drive it for a few days. That's what the dealership where I bought my car did. I took it home on a Wednesday or something and went back that next Monday and signed the papers. Maybe since he's a friend, he'll hook you up with some extended time in the car.
