Possible clutch/flywheel issue

I have a 2004 G Coupe with about 45K miles. I am having issues where the car does not seem to respond when I hit the gas but reacts after a second or two or when I get to maybe 3000-4000 RPMs. The car drives normally and at the right RPMs at higher speeds, it's just "sluggish" when I hit the gas. Other than this issue the car reacts as it should (no unusual sounds, pulling, etc.).

I know nothing about cars but a friend thinks it is the clutch. I spoke to a dealer who thinks it could be the flywheel as well. If it's the flywheel it's a $2400 repair.

Has anyone else experienced this? It seems a little early to be having these issues. Is this something that would still be under warranty? Does anyone know a mechanic they trust in the NY/NJ area?

Is this an opportunity to do some mods on the car?

Someone please correct me if I am wrong but if its the clutch or flywheel or both...they should be covered under your Powertrain warranty

someone else want to chime in with a correction or a back up..
but I believe I'm right

I hope you're right but I think that this is specifically exempted from the warranty as normal wear and tear. I remember ttrying to negotiate a "warranty" for the clutch since this was my first car with a manual transmission.

It's not covered under warranty. Not at such a high mileage...Maybe at lower mileage depends on the dealership...So, guys paid for it and some guys got lucky and the dealership warranty it...

The flywheel is just the friction disc the clutch enages to...For slipping it's usually the clutch is the problem or mabe both. The friction material on the clutch is either worn down, glazed (due to overheating)...Flywheel is a wear and tear item too...

It's a clutch problem with you shift gears and fully disengage the clutch and the RPM moves but the car doesn't move.
