G. Squad I need some serious advice !!!!
G. Squad I need some serious advice !!!!
Like some of you know, I am in the process of buying a house in L.I.
my dreams of buying a bike and keeping the G have been put to a halt. Due to the inflated prices of realestate I will not be able to afford both and will most likely need to sell the G.
I have done extensive research on current prices of the G and I have to be honest they are not too good. My 2004 with 13K miles and Navi has an estimated private sale value of $30K. Realistically not too many people are in the market to buy used cars for $30K so unfortunately Im forced to trade in.
here is where I need your advice.
so far this is the deal that Ive negotiated.
I'll be getting close to $29K trade in for the G
but Ill be buying a 2002 Black/Black Honda S2000 with the hard top and only 17K miles. The car is a certified pre-owned Honda with an extended warranty up until 2009 or 100K miles. The price for the S2000 is gonna be low $23K and I must say it is in better condition than my G even tho its older.
Ive asked many of my friends in the business and $29K for a trade in is TOP DOLLAR for this car. The S2000 is priced at fair market value but it also has an optional $2500 hard top going for it.
The S2000 cannot compare to the G in luxury dept. but I test drove the car with the top down and it is one fun car to beat on. The 9K redline is just astonishing how it just keep revving even tho Im thinking this fawking is about to BLOW
.
why trade for the S2000 ??
it is as close as riding a bike as you can get so I wont be spending on that and still get that wind in your face.
Im getting a great trade in price that will not get any better..... it is what it is.
I wont be paying tax on the S2000 which is like getting $2K more on my trade.
The S2000 is in perfect condition which in this market is critical.
The S2000 has a better warranty than a new one which is only 3yr/36K miles
This year S2000 has the 9K redline which many argue is better than the 2004-05' which only redline at 8200
the main reason would be that the s2000 has and incredible resale value especially a car in this condition with a hard top and low miles and extended warranty. There is a very good chance I can get what I paid for it next year after driving it.
another reason would be that I can be cashing out in a way on all the equity I have on the G and passing it on to the S2000 making my payments in the low to mid $200.
the insurance on the S2000 is about $200 more than the G a year so it would be $1700 for the year which is not bad for a sports car.
my apr for the used S2000 would be 3.9 for 60 months.
I was suppose to close the deal on Monday and Ive been stalling because I love my fawking G to death. Ideally I would have the G as my daily driver and the S for the weekends.
THIS IS AN EXTREMELY TOUGH DECISION THAT HAS ME LOSING SLEEP.
any comments or suggestions are all welcomed.

also if anybody with a diamond graphite G would like to swap front bumpers let me know asap. My front bumper is a 2004 with the oem front lip and Nissan OEM HID foglight kit which retails for $1750. Th
These HID foglights are only available as an option in Japan for the Skyline 350GT. The driver's side lamp will need to be replaced and I have the Nissan part #. The part is a bit expensive but not compared to what the kit cost.
Im not trying to make any profit on the deal and also not trying to trade in the car with $2k on my front bumper.
I need to know asap so if interested call me at (718) 757-1960 and we can arrange a swap. I installed the lights on my car and will help install on its future owner.
thanks again

Just to let you know, S2k Is a big no no in the winter. You think g35 is bad in snow.... try going anywhere in the S2k. The rear end on that car is really light so for it to come out doesnt take much work at all.
Also S is very small. a few of my friends have them and they love them, but they have other cars to drive in during winter and have at least a bigger car just in case they needed. the S will grow small on you in no time. SO keep that in mind. Especiall if its going to be your only car.

Lou,
First of all good luck with whatever you choose. I'm sure that s2000 won't disappoint you.
As far as you bumper goes... what's its general condition like? (scratches, chips, etc.)
I might be interested.
Dan.

Lou,
point blank the house is an investment, Your love for the G we all understand,
its all about your money ....if you swinging a mid $200 payment works for you as far as the house goes so you wont have to struggle...there is no decision to make, i mean we know its hard to part with something you love BUT...
hell yeah trade the G and get the S2000...
1. You are getting top dollar on a trade
2. The G loses value everyday (not literally but u know what i mean)
3. The house gains value everyday
4. You will still have a car you like and can have fun with, AND a HOUSE of your own that is gaining value.
5. You will need that money to customize and make the house your own..plus make it easier to do...life is HARD ENOUGH man
Infiniti is not going to stop making the G35 Coupe any time soon.
maybe in the future if your $$ allows...you can save and put more $$ on the downpayment of a new or newish one and have the G35 coupe again
and by then it'll have more HP etc...and even more of an aftermarket etc...
Meanwhile you are able to comfortably afford your house, customize it and have car that you really like....just put buyin another G on your future "to do" list
ITS the sensible decision. and we know parting with it is hard but Lou the numbers aint adding up with the G in the picture and the prices of HOMES ARE NOT going down ..thats for sure!

Thanks guys
for the help....I really appreciate it.
went to see another house today and fell in love with it...as much as I love the G...there is a chance my love for the house surpassed it by a little
here is the S2000 Im looking to trade for

as far as the bumper goes speedoholic. It is in good shape with some nicks and scratches. One of the foglight lens is broken but can be replaced with a nissan part from japan. The price of the lens housing is about $400 so I dont want you to think its cheap. Even if you dont go with the housing you can always get some 4" Piaas to fit in the insert. The inserts are already painted from Nissan and they match perfect with the Diamond Graphite color. The foglights are HID projector lights and are extremely bright. I was gonna get the replacement housing and throw in some 6000K bulbs to really make them stand out.
like I said before Im not trying to make a profit at all...especially from another G. Squad brothren.

finally made the decision huh... good luck man, its definitely the better choice in the long run.
I'm really interested in those lights but dunno if i wanna trade the entire bumper though... is there any way you can just take those off and replace it with the grill from my bumper? if not let me know how much for the swap...

lou you still comin to Mod Madness? LoL i say you should... once G-Squad, always G-Squad
on a more serious note, i know i'm one of the younger squad members, but if i had the choice between buying a house and keeping my G (even though she's my only hobby and love modding) i'd take the house.
like V said, every day that the G depreciates, a house would be appreciating.
besides, you'll still have a nice set of wheels to attract the women-folk... although, you might wanna get a cheap-o-la beater like an 92 Ford Exporer or something just so that you don't get stranded when winter comes and mother nature ****s on us again
just be careful cuz you've got a permanent case of the mod-bug.... i know i'm gonna come on here in like a month and find you postin pics of your first set of rims for the S2K LoL

LOL...now Ill show you guys who laughed at me for getting an auto in the G how to flick through the gears.
Its so funny how just a couple of months ago I decided to put my apartment for sale because somebody else in the building sold nicely. I put it on the market for ****s and giggles....two months later the apartment is in contract and ready to be transferred to a new owner. They still have to get approved by the board but they are a married couple that make enough to cover the finances, I dont see why the board would reject them.
Ill still come to mod madness so dont think you're gonna lose me that easily...LOL
I still havent done the deed guys but everything is pointing towards that direction. I will either come to my senses and just do it or back out at the last minute because I just didnt have the heart to do it...the car has been good to me and takes my daily beatings with ease..

Hope the advice helped you out....and like Steve said you've ran with the Squad for a while now ...so yeah you are still invited man no doubt!
and hey there is much more than one auto in the Squad...
6 speeders shouldn't laugh at ya....You can probably out drive most of them
while they are shiftin them gears behind your taillights scared on the real roads...the real world is not a str8 line drive.
(now let me sit back in wait for the retaliation from my fellow Squad 6MT'ers...LOL)

OK guys great news !!!
well the bad news is the house I had an accepted bid on failed inspection. Its seems the roof needs immediate attention and so does the boiler not to mention the termite issue. Lets just say I was a little disappointed and disgusted considering this is a house asking for half a million.
how can this little stupid house that cost half as much a couple of years all of sudden think their sheet dont stink. Deal fell through and now Im back to looking.
also the S2000 I was gonna trade in fell through cause when I went in, the dealer changed the price of thier car and also the APR I was suppose to get. INstead of the 3.9 I was promised they wanted to give me 5.9 and they changed the price of the car like $1K.
luckily I noticed before I switched my insurance with Geico and I walked away nearly running over the stupid manager standing in front of my car
Not kidding about that by the way.
good news is Lou is still in full effect with the G. Squad and loving my G more than ever. On the way from Jersey I stopped in Baskin & Robbins and stood in front of the car really relieved I didnt do the deal.
Im feeling pretty happy right now so happy I put in deal for some wheels.
