car almost died on me while on the freeway

i just installed the stillen intake and i had the same problem as the other guy where my car would stall ocasionally during start up. but today when i was driving home i put the car in neutral around 60-70 mph and all my lights came on and the streering wheel wouldnt move. i think my car shut off while i was still driving but after like couple seconds of doing nothing i put it in gear and tried to drive it and the lights shut off and it drove again like normal. any advice would be nice. im gonna take my car in to have the maf looked at cause i think that might be the problem.

no, it's the stillen intake causing the problem - that problem is very common w/ lots of intakes (putting it in neutral and car dieing at 50+ )

again, z-tube+no power duct + k&n > cai+stalling and crashing.

Did you install the intake yourself? Can it be a leak somewhere? I installed Injen CAI myself and never have this problem. And yes, I've tried putting it in neutral while going as fast as 70MPH. Do you have an AT or MT?

I've seen reports of this several times. My question is, why would one put it in neutral at those speeds?

stillen does make 2 different intakes...a cold air intake and a stillen sealed intake...i wish people would realize the difference they are not the same

Injen CAI here, never had that problem. Btw, did you cut off piece of foam (from inner bumper) to allow air flow to the filter?

I guarantee you its the intake.... This has happened to 100 other people here. Lesson= cold air intake not the best mod for G35.

Check the connections on the MAF Sensor. As long as air is flowing into the intake, that's probably the only thing that could screw it up.

well i put it to neutral to save gas cause its really expensive now but i dont know how much of it i could save. and my car is a 6mt. im not sure if mine is a cai but it did come with a heat shield so i basicall got the ztube heat shield and k&n cone filter. i installed it myself with some help but now that i think of it i rember the guy pulling off the maf sensor without disconnecting the battery. i hope its just hte maf sensor having to be reset and not a defective stillen intake because i think 1 out of 1000 are over sensitive? im not sure i read it somewehre and those odds arent that great its not like 1 out of 10,000 or 1 out of 100,000. but ill i keep you guys updated after i take it to the dealer ship and get the maf reset.

it's not the maf and it's not manufacturing defects. it's a rather 'common' occurance with some intakes. s-e-a-r-c-h

I don't understand that either. There must be a reason.

ok to clarify i usualy put it to neutral when i get close to the offramp so this way i dont have to keep gassing it untill the very end cause usualy at the speed im going i could just put it to neutral and get to the end of the off ramp using any more gas thats all its just a habbit :[

i'm speaking from experience in my e36 m3, but the same should apply here.

The CAI is probably causing the airflow through the MAF to have too much turbulence. This makes the MAF meter the air incorrectly - and causes it to 'stall' when in idle mode. (shifting to neutral).

I tested this on my m3 by placing a big fan in front of the air filter; the MAF readings went crazy and the car eventually stalled.

I moved the MAF upstream (further away from the filter), and the readings leveled out.

Btw your car started again because it basically did a rolling start.
