Gas door stuck.

Hey, so... i was at the gas station and my gas tank door wouldnt open when i pushed it, I called infiniti and they told me to open the trunk, undo the clips and peel back the plastic moulding etc to press the switch to open the gas tank. That was about 3 months ago lol, im a lazy *** and i havent taken it in to get fixed. This happens about 50% of the time when i go to get gas so it sucks. Anyone have this problem? I see that theres a little white bar that slides into place to preven the door from opening when the car is locked, but mine doesnt move it just quivers and sticks. Anyways, any idea if it is easy to fix myself or am i going to have to take it to infiniti and end up paying like 300 bux in labor:0( Hmm would it be covered under warranty?

TIA

That sucks... i think i remember seeing your post about this... i seriously dont know how to change the gas door lock... but i could imagine it would be a pain... maybe someone can chime in... if you car is out of warranty take it to a nissan/infiniti specialist shop... they can do it cheaper than the dealer... or PM caskyline... he knows the ins and outs of the G very well

Use the keyfob to unlock your doors. When you lock them your tank locks too. Maybe that will work.

If only the driver side is unlocked, the fuel door is still locked (or it is on my car 03)

i had the same thing happen to my G, took it back to the dealership and they replaced the fuel door release actuator under warranty. problem solved! almost ran out of gas that time, filled 19.5 gallons.

Just take it back to the dealer and stop being so lazy or else your warranty's gonna run out.

It's in the manual (at least for the 03-04): put the key in the drivers side door and turn it towards the rear, then unlock the doors using the door master unlock, then use the keyfob at least twice. This will override the lock and pop it open. I had an embarassing moment at a gas station once. I called Infiniti service and they said they would have to tow it. While I was waiting, I read the manual and I found it. RTFM. :-)

my solenoid was stuck/frozen, there was no way to override that. Easy enough to reach in behind the trunk liner and free it tho. I got mine replaced under warranty about a year ago.

what does the keyfob do to unstick a seized soleniod? Does it dispense grease?

I'm pretty sure the solenoid is about 30 bucks. There's a clip on the outside (inside the fuel door), as I recall you just twist it and it releases the whole mechanism. You can replace it in 10 mins (and thats removing the liner too).

Thank you God for this forum! This just happened to me today while 50 miles away from home and 200 miles away from dealer with tank on empty! I remembered seeing this post and the suggestions worked.
