REAL Quarter Mile Time
I keep reading about 1/4 mile times for the G35 and the 350Z....and i dont understand how CAR and Driver (mag) hits 14.6 in the G35, and 14.4 in the 350Z?? but they hit low times for every one else??!? Such as the S2000 hits 14.1 and WRX impreza(not STI) hits a 14.4!? Now on the other hand Motor Trend hit 14.2 in the G35 and 13.9 in the 350Z! Is the Z and G hard to hit low times?! what do u guys think?? Oh yea BTW!!!....the G35 and 350Z were the 6speed coupe, and the Track model Z!

i was at Englishtown NJ this Wensday and there was no G35s but there were 3 350z's and a bunch of wrx's.
the best 350z time was 14.6 the fastest wrx (non sti) was around there too STOCK there were a few mooded but i dont know what they ran. i wish some G's showed up but no luck. also saw a EVO run a 12.2

Re: REAL Quarter Mile Time
What do you consider a low time? I can't understand the misconception that this car is super fast. Cuz it's not. It's fast enough for a classy coupe but it's not in the same field with an Evolution, Cobra, etc.. Cars that were built for speed. This car does 0-60 in 6.0 secs on avg. That equates to roughly a 14.4-14.6 1/4. So the times you're seeing are accurate. An S2000 goes 0-60 in 5.5 so it's going to be a little faster. Actually it's geared faster. 0-60 doesn't make a car faster. I retract that statement. Point is the G35 and the 350Z are fast cars but not the cream of the crop. They're average in todays current sports cars.

Re: REAL Quarter Mile Time
Yeah, but I've beaten those C&D times with an AT, launching at idle because I'm scared to hurt the tranny. And I personally raced against a Z that completely botched its launch (2.55 second 60 footer) and still got down the track in 14.5. Those published times are way off.

Re: REAL Quarter Mile Time
Anyone with some drag racing experience should always be able to beat the times you see listed in Car and Driver or Motor Trend. Those magazines use lift-throttle shifting (never powershift) and actually weigh the car down with test equipment and a full tank of gas.
I've been able to beat published magazine times with every car I've ever owned at a dragstrip.

Re: REAL Quarter Mile Time
C&D did two tests of the G- one in Nov, then one again in Apr with the RX-8 and Cobra. The second one was better than the first, and they claim better than the Z. They posted 5.5 for 0-60 and 14.2@100mph for the quarter, second time round. These are very respectable. What was to me, more revealing, was how little was lost in C&Ds "street start"- 5-60mph- half the deficit suffered by the Mazda. This is where zingers like the RX-8 and s2000 really lack, as well as in top gear accel times. On this forum, folks have posted slips from strips for both the AT and MT with identical bests, both of which are slightly under C&Ds times (5.3 and 14.0 if I recall correctly). Why identical? For the 6MT guys, how many shifts will you make to 60? How many to 100? Take a look at the specs and you'll see that Nissan wasn't too worried about those numbers, or they wouldn't have the MT switching to 3rd at 58 mph, or 4th just before the quarter passes. The AT has one less shift in both cases, reducing the deficit caused by not getting between torque and hp peak as quickly.
