High Altitude performance loss

I love my new G35 coupe, red, aero and suspension package, NO sunroof or gizmo package. BUT,, I test drove one in Phoenix, elevation about 1,000 ft. and now that I am home in New Mexico, driving to and from work everyday I notice a BIG loss in performance at these elevations,,4,000 to 6,000 ft. I know that a supercharger or turbocharger would more than compensate,,,but I am not ready to make that jump for half a dozen reasons.
I see the cold air intake kits,,,but they seem to be for the 2005 and earlier models,,,mine is a 2006.
Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated,,,I did a search for both high altitude and high elevation and got nothing relative.

lol, try living at 6-7000ft with trips up into the 14,000ft range. >_> Anyway, those CAI should work on your car, nothing significant has been changed under the hood other than it's a revup engine.

Fourlix, welcome to the high desert. The elevation (5,300-5,400 feet here outside Abq) takes its toll on performance.

As far as the CAI, I recommend the Injen SP1993 CAI, works great on the 06 model.

I live in the 6-7000' range too (in the Rockies). I guess I don't know what I'm missing. I'll have to take a trip to sea level someday!

Welcome to G35Driver, Fourlix, and congrats on the Coupe.
Seems your altitude has messed the A/F ratio. Talk to the dealer about retuning the ECU to compensate.

Would an intake actually help that? Seems to me, thin air is thin air.

But more air is more air, even if it is thinner....
What about the "z tube" I hear about,,,a little farther up the pipe from the CAI.....?
FYI, it is an auto tranny with the lower hp engine....

Welcome & congrats on the new ride.

I used to live at altitude in Reno. I drove my Titan down to Sacramento, CA one weekend. I wanted to pull quickly from a stop, and completely lit up the tires. I had never done that up in Reno.

Now, here in ABQ, NM, I was hoping to grab second gear, but don't. I realize I have AT, but thought I could pull it off in manual mode. Oh well...I guess it's an even playing field.

For $120 bucks I bought the K&N filter and Z tube combo package from everythingg35.com. I am not expecting much, but it should sound a little better with the increased intake.
I guess I will just have to live with the decreased performance at this elevation ( 4,000 to 6,300 feet). I cross the continental divide twice daily just outside of Silver City, New Mexico on U.S. 180.
I have a half hour commute each day, each way, on a great road with little traffic. Driving my G35 Coupe each day puts a real big smile on my face.

Look at it this way. Everybody in your area feels
the same

Congrats on the new car

Wow, here it is all these years later. I was doing a search on Turbos vs. Superchargers at high elevation and came on this post,,,,that I posted almost 6 years ago. The G has 85,000 miles on it now, and never been in the shop. What a great car. But, I am back to square one with the power dilemna. A single turbo is looking pretty good. I have a new Ford F-150 Pickup with the EcoBoost engine in it. Coincidently a 3.5 liter V-6 DOHC with Twin Turbos....It is awesome and out performs even the big 6.2 liter V-8s. I think, up at this elevation, it will beat the G in a straight line.
SO, Turbo? Gas mileage? Reliability? Zoom Zoom..........

I just moved from South FL to Salt Lake City, UT. Elevation from sea level to about 4200 ft.

I drive a blk 04 coupe 6mt w/ Injen intake (for sound), and I mean WOW, this is unsettling how much power loss I'm experiencing. The immediate low-end torque is diminished, and I'm left wanting.

Talked to the Infiniti dealer here telling me I must have a bad grounding wire . Have read that resetting the ECU doesn't do anything, so much for that idea.

I'm at 115k miles (60k on the engine, had it replaced at 55k under warranty due to oil consumption)

I still love her more than anything, but at this point, FI just isn't the answer this late in the game. Shaniqua has been good to me, but it may be time to start the search for new love. A mature gal with a nice set of turbos that I can count on. S4???

You'll have the same issue, even with a newer car. You won't be getting the performance as advertised due to your elevation. You'll need to either get a high performance car to make the power losses acceptable, or go FI on your current car. A set of twin turbos would do you nicely to satisfy your torque needs.

let us know what you upgrade with.

You know i use to be NA and had all the bolt ons on my car. Driving in the LA area and going to victorville you can feel the difference in power loss. Now that i am Supercharge it really makes up for lost power. CAI won't fix the problem. It will only fix it in a small percentage but if your going to go SC or turbo, don't waist your time on CAI.
