Close Encounter with an RX-8
On my way to Starbucks yesterday afternoon I hopped on the fwy and in front of me was a yellow RX-8. I never saw one up close until yesterday that thing is small. At 250hp that thing can accelerate really quick. He was pulling away from me as we were accelerating to speed. We hit 140mph just like that we had to let go cus we hit traffic. As I exited the fwy he followed me I stopped at the gas station to fill up and he pulled just behind me at the pump. We both laughed and just started talking we checked each others ride. One thing I didn't like about his ride is that 4 door thing it will take a little getting use to. I told him we should hook up one weekend and just drive up a curvey mountain side. Anyways, when I got home I was thinking of what else I can do to lighten the car. Now I have to get that crawford plenum and high flow exhaust just incase I encounter another RX-8.

Re: Close Encounter with an RX-8
On a roll start from 5-60 the 8, I think, is waaaaaaaay behind the torquier G. And it all depends on how well the driver keeps the car in the sweet spot (between 4.5 - 7.5 K rpm)
On a highway, were the 8 has more space in the rev range (gearing miracles I call it) it is not THAT bad.
Although, forget about a punch in the face in 6th gear....driving it. Nonetheless, its a satisfaction to drive it on the highway.

Well.....??? I don't really know all I could think about was the lighter weight of the car and how fast it can accelerate. Like I said the 4 dr thing I still have to get use too. Maybe if I get to drive it I can answer your question a little better. The car has a good outline I guess just like anything it can grow in you. I like my G35 better when I first saw the car I just had to have it, didn't feel that on the 8. Had to get rid of my 2003 TL-S to get my G.

Re: Close Encounter with an RX-8
For looks, it's hit or miss with the RX-8 for almost everyone. They either really like it or think it's a reject from a low-budget Sci-Fi movie. Myself, I like the way it looks, and I like the rear entry suicide doors too; they would help greatly with getting people in/out of my backseat, which I do a lot.
On the other hand, I haven't met anyone yet who doesn't like the looks of the G. Yesterday, after stopping at the grocery store, I was walking back to my car and some girl pointed at the G sitting alone in the lot. I washed it earlier that day, and the sun had just set. She asked, "Is that your car? It's absolutely beautiful."

I have to agree with you about the G's looks. I have the impression that it will age a LOT better than most current cars. However, the characteristic you just mentioned about the 8: Love it or Hate it, will most likely play in its favor. The fewer there are on the streets, the better will be on the long run....although, if they don't sell enough rotaries, there won't be a NEW RX-7 and that would royally SUCK.

The RX-8 looks awsome in blue! It's a hot little car. But it's different than the g...smaller, sporter, cheaper. More of a "kids" car than a luxury car. I think it appeals to a different market...
Re: Close Encounter with an RX-8
I saw an RX-8 all in black yesterday during rush our traffic and it was sweet looking. We gave each other the thumbs up as we were next to each other going 5MPH in bumper to bumper traffic.
Re: Close Encounter with an RX-8
Actually...I was tinkering with the options and a nicely equiped rx-8 (leather, nav, body kit) will run you 34k. It's a hot car but that's a lot of $$! That's G territory and Gs are a lot more pretigious if you ask me...

Don't know what you're talking about because I'm driving one. It was the first 04 coupe on the dealers lot when I got it. It was so new the salesman didn't even know it was there. In fact it was so new it only had 8 miles on it after it was PDIed by the dealer. Sticker says it was a 2004 all the paperwork I signed says it's an 04. Who told you that they didn't make a CB for this car for 04 because obviously they are lying?

Re: Close Encounter with an RX-8
Hi all... First time here... In the market for a new car... Always been a Nissan fan (especially skylines...) Don't think I can wait till the R35 to comes out while my current car is falling apart infront of my eyes
Anyways, it was interesting to hear the RX8 being able to go that fast... with its much lower, relatively speaking, hp and torque Should be a great handling car... but don't see that as those cars that would be strong in the straights....
Also, if anyone seen the july issue of Best Motoring DVD (Japanese Car video magazine) You can see the G35 coupe just eating the RX8 up on the straights. So it was definitely interesting to hear the RX8 and the G35 was running together on the freeway.
I look forward to learning more about the G35 here while searching for a new car...
