I run Chevron 94 here in Vancouver BC and no sign of pre-ignition.

I'm assuming that you mean 94 octane. So I went to Sunoco this morning to fill up and there is no Sunoco 94. They had 91 and 93. I filled up with 93. I'm going to try it for a while and see if it gets rid of the knocking. I was filling up at Exxon and sometimes Shell.

Just wondering has anyone mentioned this problem to their dealer and had it successfully fixed? I took a look but don't see a TSB on it yet.

When I put on my catch-can, it helped reduce the amount of *audible* knock, but didn't completely do away with it.

You are correct, I didn't realize they were down to 93 now.
After getting the initial tank of gas out I have not really heard any detonation.
I believe they put cheap gas in at the dealer to save a buck.

It's going to be 100+ temperature here tomorrow so I will take a good listen.

Did something change? I remember in the owners manuals of my older cars, it said that light/occasional pinging was not detrimental, and said that light/occasional pinging actually yielded slightly improved fuel economy. Though it did say prolonged pinging can cause severe engine damage....

Maybe manufactureres were just full of themselves back in the 80's early 90's.

I'm glad my G isn't pinging at all.. (knocking on wood)
