What next? - what car to get after the G35C
What next? - what car to get after the G35C
Its coming to that time, I have 20k on my G35 Coupe now and I am coming up fast to 30k - I prepaid for a 2 year 30k lease. With 100+ mile daily commute I have about 4 or 5 months left. I didn't have this commute when I bought the car.
So what should I do. What car should I get next? If you were going to buy a car under 50k after the G35 what would it be? Or should I just get a beater commute car to drive back and forth and keep the G35 as well?
My thoughts...
New 5-series
FX35/FX45
Beater Commuter (civic, small truck, tiburon, who knows)
Crossfire
Let me know what you guys would do
G35 Coupe / Premium / Nav
Ivory Pearl / Willow Leather
SSR GT3 19"s w/ Bridgestone SO-3

I saw a new 5 series on the street, at first I was like " WTF is that $h!t", then I was like "Oh, that's the New 5 series" I like the 7 Series, but the 5 looks ugly in person.

if you have a 100+ mile daily commute, then the FX will eat up your wallet in gas bills, i imagine. i've heard the crossfire looks nice in pics but kind of cheap in person. i say keep the G and get a beater commuter b/c at least you have something nice to drive on the weekends. Re: What next? - what car to get after the G35C
How will the FX eat his wallet up. The FX35 gets about the same gas milage as the coupe. The FX45 is doing about what the Q45 is doing and that about 17mpg. Like mentioned above keep the G buy a hybird.
Re: What next? - what car to get after the G35C
the g35 coupe gets the same gas mileage as the FX? wow that kind of stinks. my thinking was an suv is a bigger gas eater (afterall, i did say "i imagine" up above). anyway, all technicalities aside, i still say keep the G and get a beater. it's the same bottom line, deadmanincbh. I've always thought a 99-00 civic si would be a nice commuter, especially if you're putting that many miles on the car. Get something reliable, and something that fits you. What are the winters like where you are? Do you have any kids? I'd assume not if you listed the crossfire.

If you are one of those people that has to have an auto, there is one great ride for you. Test drive an FX-45. I've had a truck and I traded it in after 5 months. I have driven a lot of SUVs since I have travelled a lot and although I have at times liked them for utility, etc.; I never would consider any of them to fill my garage. Well, that was until I drove an FX-45. I hate SUVs because they accelerate, handle and brake worse than most economy cars. Driving the FX-45 was different. First the cabin is a lot tighter around you than you expect from an SUV. The dash, small steering wheel and controls have the feel of a sports car. The seat is very deaply bolstered like a sports car. When I drove it, the feeling is more of an M5 than an X5. There is extremely little body roll. When pushed hard into a corner, it has tremendous grip and stays flat. The steering and brakes are extremely tight. In fact the brakes are extremely touchy. The power is extremely smooth with the V8. After I got done driving it, I looked at the salesman and said I could really consider owning one. I was looking for a 2-door and I only wanted a stick, so it was out of the queston. But, I have a sales VP who just purchased an X5 and the FX-45 makes the X5 feel like just another truck by comparison. It is truely a great ride.
Also, you may want to consider buying instead of leasing. My loan through my credit union was only 3.24%. The low interest rates make the payments for buying much more comparible to leasing.

Re: What next? - what car to get after the G35C
Before I got the G, I drove a 100 mile daily commute for 4 years, on some of the worst roads in the Northeast (I-95 through the Bronx, NY, L.I. Expressway, etc.). My commuting car was a fully loaded '96 Contour SE that I bought new with a V-6 and a 5 speed. That car was a PERFECT commuting car, and was a blast to drive(handled very well, pretty quick, etc.). Got decent fuel economy (27MPG average), was perfectly reliable over 130k+ miles that I owned it, and was just a great all-around car. Most commuter cars are slow, boring as hell, and don't handle or brake worth a crap. Not this car - it had a perfect blend of practicality and performance.
Was it as nice as the G? Of course not. But for that tough commute, I would much prefer to drive the Contour than to beat up my G on that commute. I don't have that commute anymore, so I traded the Contour in on the G.
Ford doesn't sell the Contour here in the U.S. anymore. They still sell it in Europe and most of the world as the Mondeo, and the new model is a fantastic car, and it's a shame they don't sell it here. Stupid Ford is all I can say.
However, you can buy a sister-car to the Mondeo/Contour today: the Mazda 6. I think you should get one of those as your commuter car. Fully loaded with leather and everything, they're about $25k, but they're slow-selling so you can get some good deals on them. If you keep the options down, and just go with the V-6 and a stick, you can be out the door for about $20k. And you'll have one of the best performing practical & reliable commuter cars you could possibly have. And it's MUCH nicer than a freakin Civic! Not even in the same league.
If I was on a tighter budget and couldn't afford the G, the Mazda 6 is what I would have gotten instead.

If you're commuting that much, why not go for something like the Acura TSX? Great gas milage, fun to drive and easier on the wallet. I think the Audi A4 is getting cheaper now, so maybe that would fit the bill on a lease?
In your position, I'd go straight for the TSX or new TL coming out in a couple weeks.

Re: What next? - what car to get after the G35C
I just got a 1997 corolla LE with 85 000kms 2 days ago.
I think this will be a very good winter beater/car to drive to places where I can't drive the G.
Next year I'm getting a TSX, I'll pay the lease cash in advance for 3 years...I think the tsx could be a really good daily driver that won't cost much in gas and it's still a great second car.
