passenger airbag

so i tried doing a search but had no luck finding an answer to my problem [maybe i just suck at searching ]

but everytime i get in my car and start it it says passenger airbag off. at first i figured there might be a weight sensor in the passenger seat so when no one is sitting there it would be off. but then i took my g/f out last night and everytime i started the car with her in the seat it still said it was off.

i dont have an owners manual yet [im ordering one from ebay in the next few days] so im lost..

anyone know how to turn it on? am i just blind and missing something obvious..? if thats the case, sorry for the noob question..

Unless your girlfriend is 3 and weighs 35 pounds, it should come on.

There is an electronic owners manual available on the Infiniti site that gives the specific details - I don't have mine here or I'd look it up for you. Go to the Infiniti site and look under 'ownership' for the answer.

In theory, you're correct:

no passenger - light on
passenger (or other object) over a certain weight - light off

Search works fine. Several threads out there covering this. Here's one.

My gf's 24 and weighs 92lbs. Sensor goes on and off. Infiniti should seriously rethink this airbag sensor switch before it does more damage than good.

same here. My wife is 100 lbs and the airbag light will go on and off randomly with her. We dont have the same issue with our TL though. If shes in the seat, the passenger airbag light is always off, except if she leans forward or something, then the light will come on for a split second, then turn off again.

so i tried it again today. i sat in the drivers seat. a friend (145lbs) sat in the passenger seat. i started the engine and the light lit up for about 3 seconds and turned off.

but get this..thats exactly what happens when no ones in the passenger seat...

so passenger or no passenger..this is what happens:

1) start the engine
2) 'passenger air bag off' lights up for about 2 seconds
3) 'passenger air bag off' turns off

My gf noticed that too. A few weeks ago she asked me why it said the passenger side airbag was off. Without thinking, I said there was a sensor that detects if someone is sitting there and that's why it's lit. But she was sitting there so it shouldn't have been. It seems to randomly go on and off. I should probably get the dealer to look into that once I get my car back.

It's all good. Mine does what it's supposed to do, as far as I can tell. Whether or not a defective light indicates a defective airbag system or just a defective seat sensor is beyond me. I'd take it to the dealer and let them absorb the liability.

My Air Bag in my car deployed when no one was in the passenger seat. Is it suppose to do that? I think not. That has me worried. What if someone was sitting in the seat and the airbag didn't deploy? Once i get my car back its going to infiniti to have the problem looked at or better, have them reimburse me for the faulty sensor.

Yes, its supposed to do this. The light will come on momemtarily on start up to 1) confirm that the light is working, and 2) for the seat sensors to determine if some one is actually sitting in the seat.

I dont konw why sometimes the light comes on while someone is sitting in the passenger seat while driving. Those sensors are so sensitive.

I'm sorry but i'm kinda confused here. Passenger airbag indicator light suppose to turn on (off) when there's no passenger? The only car I've ever seen is on the Toyota Camry, but on the G does too; especially the Coupe? I know that when the switch is positioned at ON all the lights lid up then off after the car is started. By the way, my car is 04 coupe.

One more thing is that I had experienced with Airbag light is on permanently is that I somehow trigged one of the airbag sensor while installed the system. And in that case you should try to reset it. Search around for the airbag light reset, I'm sorry I kinda forget how it goes.
