My only friend i that i depend on is blue. He makes sure i win. He makes me scared and hold on tight as i sweat. He is my only friend that gives me what i need from a push of a button.

Re: Mustang GT Highway "Race"

keep in mind that MM&FF use slicks in their testing while most others use the stock rubber. My pre G35 car was a 98 saleen blown mustang(a very nice sleeper car) and have a subscription to MM&FF...the number they post in their mag make me scratch my head at times in disbelief. Same mag, two different articles, same year GT on the dyno...nubmers arent within 5-7hp of each other. They claim both rides are stock but one puts down 230HP(which i believe) and the other puts down 240HP...the torque for the first was 260ish(again i can believe that) the other one puts out 275ft-lbs. I have also seen them dyno a stock 98GT and they got 205HP with 290ft-lbs...the HP is probably a little high and I know the torque is completely wrong for a 98GT since i have seen most dyno at 180-190hp and torque is usually around 250-260. I know this is G forum but I have been stewing on the MM&FF issue for some time now and thought this was as good a place as any.

Re: Mustang GT Highway "Race"

I had a 2003 GT. Fully loaded. It ran 13.6@103 at Etown on stock radials. Right off the street. i doubt the GT you raced was a 99 and newer model. It would have been dead even or he might have rolled you.

I beat one in my lowly sedan - how do you figure - it was an 03 - maybe they are getting weaker? I asked this a few months ago as I was surprised. He did get me at 110 or so and then went by pretty quick. 13.6 stock seems very impressive for a stock GT. Maybe my car runs 13's too! ha

Re: Mustang GT Highway "Race"

dahmner,

As a former Mustang owner, even you have to admit that 13.60's in a stock '03 Mustang with stock tires is very unusual.

14 flat is a far more typical time..... Heck, most guys run closer to mid 14's witht them.

Stock for stock, a new GT and a G35c should be neck and neck.

Re: Mustang GT Highway "Race"

I'm reminded of a scene from This is Spinal Tap.

Nigel: You're on 10 on your guitar. You're on 10 on your amp. Where can you go?

Marti: Nowhere

Nigel: Nowhere. Exactly! You know what we do when we need that extra little push over the cliff? Put it on 11!

Marti: Why don't you make 10 be the top number, and then make that louder.

Nigel: These go to 11.

Here's hoping somebody gets that..

Re: Mustang GT Highway "Race"

One side note...keep in mind that racing at a dragstrip is different than the street...the track puts glue on the surface to help traction. never seen a street department prepare a highway for some late night action, though it would be appreciated.

Re: Mustang GT Highway "Race"

Yeah, but the "glue" you are referring to, which is more commonly known as VHT, is meant for cars using slicks.

Street tires get crappy traction on a VHT covered dragstrip.

Re: Mustang GT Highway "Race"

Hahahaha... You're not the only guy here who knows Mustangs. I've had a few of them myself, starting with an 87 5.0L.

But really, who cares what you beat or claim to beat on the street? Anything can happen, especially considering all the people that don't really know how to drive fast.

If you said you beat a Kia, I believe you. If a Kia owner says he beat you, I believe that too. But really, who cares?

Re: Mustang GT Highway "Race"

i think he meant he goes easy on any kill stories since anythin can happen on the streets... not like he doesn't care at all... he generally accepts what people tell about their stories... or did i miss understood him?

Re: Mustang GT Highway "Race"

Wow, you just don't get it, do you?

I'm saying that I could care less that YOU owned a Mustang and that YOU claimed to beat this car or that car.

Point is that ANYTHING can happen on the streets. Some people can drive, some people can't. Some people leave their car stock, some people are highly modded.

But really, who cares?
