Re: Mustang GT Highway "Race"

I own a Mustang GT. It's not nearly as fast as my G. No contest unless it's heavily modded.

04 Sedan. Obs. Black W/ Willow. Premium, Navigation, Sport Tuned. 35% Tint on sides, 20% back, K @ N, Brand Spankin New.

...but as a toy, it's a fun car I just drop the top and downshift when I go through underpasses or tunnels-- GOTTA love the growl of a V8. Mine's in the shop, I get it back on Sat. so I can abuse it a bit more before it gets too cold...

The one you raced, and the one the other guy owns...they must be '98 or earlier. From '99 on, they will be more or less dead even with a G, driven properly.

I thought we were dead even with the Mach 1s.

The Mach 1?

Are you serious? Just so you know, the Mach 1 has essentially the same engine as the Mustang Cobra, but before the 03 models, which are supercharged.

A well driven manual trans Mach 1 should run mid to low 13's in the quarter mile. They do have an automatic Mach 1, and even those run in the 13.90 range.

Year 2003
Make Ford
Model Mustang
Trim Mach 1
Transmission 5-speed Manual
0-60 mph 5.29 s
1320 ft (1/4 mile) 14.00 s @ 101.5 mph

Year 2003
Make Infiniti
Model G35
Trim Coupe
Transmission 6-speed Manual
Theoretical Top Speed 156 mph
0-60 mph 5.50 s
1320 ft (1/4 mile) 14.28 s @ 100.39 mph

Yep, the Mach1 is faster alright, but I've never seen any data they run stock in the low 13s.

Re: Mustang GT Highway "Race"

Take a look at the current (Oct) issue of Car and Driver magazine (or possibly Motor Trend, I forgot which one I saw it in)

Anyway, they tested a new Mach 1 with automatic tranny and got it to run high 13's. In the text, they compared it to the manual version that they tested, which ran low 13's.

Or take a good look at the Mustang forums. Most owners report times well into the 13's, bone stock.

Re: Mustang GT Highway "Race"

Mach 1's will run low 13's with an exceptional driver. I know you guys are gonna call BS, but Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords Magazine has an incredible driver (Evan Smith). He ran a 13.1 with a stock Mach 1. They will run 13's easily. Motortrend drivers need to learn how to drive.

Re: Mustang GT Highway "Race"

I was just going by what C&D reported. Since they reported us at 14.2 and the Mach 1 at 14.0, that's pretty much a driver's race. I didn't know people were getting them in the low 13s stock.

Re: Mustang GT Highway "Race"

Yeah, Evan Smith is a BADASS driver........I think he could abuse a 6MT into the high 13's. He drove a bone stock '99 Z28 (not an SS) to 12.89 (6MT) and a bone stock '99 C5 HardTop to 12.6, again bone stock. I wish I had his drag racing skills!
