My new G.smashed

This should make for an awesome first post! Well, I just joined the ranks of G ownership about 3 weeks or so ago. I work 7 days a week and don't get to drive her much. To the topic...I drove home today only to find my PARKED coupe all scraped up and dented on the rear bumper and on the trunk lip near the Infiniti wording. Looks like it was a red car, probably a visitor in the apartment community. The jerk left no note (no suprise). If anyone in the Atlanta area knows any good body/paint shops let me know, as I just got it and will probably have to come out of pocket for it (only liability on my old car, haven't transferred it), or if you have a buddy in the business. Anyways, just had to post as it was quite the ****ty day.

One more... If it costs a lot I might get a custom paint job, or I guess an aftermarket rear bumper. Opinions on this? Thanks in advance guys/gals.

Thanks to you both. I filed a police report, but you know they can't do anything on hit and run without a tag #.

i hope who ever hit your G... Crashes off a cliff.... and flips upside down into a 4 foot deep pond of water... and slowly and painfully drowns to death... doing damage to someones car and not doing anyting about it is a ******* sin

I'm very sorry to see that painful damage. As far as the repairs, I don't think I'd get a custom paint job because that's going to cost you a whole ton of money out of your pocket... especially if you get it done right, which means stripping the car and painting the frame, door jambs and engine bay. If you don't get it done right, it will look like crap when you open up any of the doors and will seriously impact the cars resale value. The insurance company is only going to give you an estimate to paint the new trunk lid and rear bumper or any other parts that are damaged... not the whole car.

Unless you were already planning on getting a custom paint job(in which case, go ahead and do it now), I'd suggest just considering the possibility of an aftermarket rear bumper if you can find one that you like the looks of. Chances are that it probably would cost only a tad bit more than the OEM bumper.

I'm sure you know this.. but if you are leasing your car(you didn't specify if you were or not), you will have to go with the OEM rear bumper replacment.

Best of luck with the repairs.

People can be serious a$$holes. I can understand how they may have scraped the bumper by not paying attention, but where did the dings on the lid come from?

Sorry to see that, but welcome to the community.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I am gonna check out a highly recommended shop I heard about on a few other enthusiast forums for Atlanta. I think I might go aftermarket on the bumper. I hope the trunk can be easily repaired without having to get another oem trunk. As far as custom painting, I figured if I was gonna have to drop several hundred I might as well just go all out and get a color I truly want. Where my car is it would be REALLY hard to hit it and not notice, its so far into the parking space only a complete retard could have accomplished this.

Yikes! Sorry to see and hear about your G! When I lived in Philly, I used to park my second car in an outside lot. One afternoon, I went out to take it on a trip and found the entire side demolished by some hit-and-runner. Looks like a truck did it, since the damage was high up on the entire left side and the damage was extensive. Long story short, the car was deemed totaled by my insurance company and I ended up getting a new car.

Most recently, I just had my G's rear bumper completely replaced/repainted. It cost me $850 (thank you insurance!). I had to get it replaced since it was torn up and dented when I used to park it in our underground apartment garage in Philly. The valet guys scraped it all over the concrete walls and backed it up into bolts along the wall. Nice, right?

Anyway, you shouldn't have to pay more than $900 including labor for the bumper (I had 3 separate estimated done by Mercedes, Ferrari, and Infiniti body shops). Good luck with the repairs, hope your insurance kicks in for you, and welcome to the forum!

that really sux!!

I'm trying to figure out what it could have been that hit your ride. The marks on the bumper are low but they managed to damage the trunk lid too which is farther back than the bumper cover.

They may have hit it hard enough to push the bumper cover in and it popped back out. Weird.

Good luck with the repair and I hope you find out who did it.

go with a custom paint job that would be freaking awesome! I was thinking of doing that with my G my dad owned a body shop up north (ohio) for a number of years so he knows how to paint and we still have all the spray guns to do it...

I think your gonna need a new bumper cover, but the trunk should be fine. Good luck with the repairs.
