Forget About It
Hi I live and worked in Shanghai for about two years.

First of all the import taxes will all most be 2X the cost of the G

Second and most important the taxi drivers are crazy and they will dare you at every turn! Very bad drivers and dangerous. You will learn quickly!!!

Good Luck

OMG, LUCKY @!$!@$!@!@#
first of all, im a shanghaiese, i miss my G while its still sitting in the garage of my ny house.
i havent seen any Gs in shanghai yet, i've seen some Zs.
i heard that you wouldnt need to pay any tariffs for your G if you are an american citizen and work in shanghai, but one car per person i think. all you need to pay is the shipping fee.
If i were you, i would ship some 150k+ usd car to shanghai, then sell it for 300k. cuz import cars are crazy expensive in China.
also, the driving is crazy here. you might need some amazing driving skillz.
haha, good luck!

Dude, I take it you've actually been to Shanghai and experienced the traffic there?? Don't even think about taking your G there. Sell it, enjoy working overseas, and save a truckload of cash and buy whatever you want when you get back.

p.s. Did you hear they changed the tax laws for expats?? It used to be everything up to 80 grand you made overseas was exempt from US taxes, but they changed that this year, basically making what used to be a really sweet deal a very bad deal. All my friends that are still overseas are lobbying pretty hard against it, but you might want to look into that.

Anyway, Shanghai is an AWESOME place for expats. You're gonna have a blast. Congrats!!

100% of the Value of the car on the Tax and Duties, shipping should be around $800 since you will need a 25FT continer! And the gas is not has bad as everyone think it is! But i would no take it over there. They got Z33 Zs in China so just get a Z over there!

1. tax rate is 70%
2. new car only
3. 4 month wait
4. you can't sell your import car in China.

those are official rule. I went through this one year ago.
but I think they will reject your G35. Since it's not for sale in China, they can't caculate
your tax.
of course if you know some key person, none of those rule apply to you.

Quote: if you've got a pretty high-paying job, hire a private rickshaw driver, and pay him extra to try and imitate the G's sound with his mouth everytime he starts moving
That is one of the funniest things I have heard all week.

btw: Infiniti is planning on launching in China by 2007 or 2008, so you can just sell your G now and buy an 08 over there.

I would keep the G here and put it in storage. Since rickshaw's are the hot commodity, I would get one and pimp it out like this guy did. What kind of rims are these?

a lot of you guys seem to have a misconception of china.. or even shanghai.. yea the drivers there are ****ty but having a nice car there is common... if any of you have been there.. the majority of the cars are audi's... ive seen soo many bimmers 760li 530.. etc.. also.. ive seen exotics such as maserati.. porsche turbos.. and even ferraris and lambos.. so having a g35 there isn't soo bad.. ill be working for Pfizer in China
