These use IR light to jam the guns so this shouldn't cause any health risks unless you think your tv remote is giving you cancer...

Laser is regulated by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The "cheap" laser jammers use IR. The Lidatek uses the same laser diode that's in the actual police laser gun.

In states where laser jammers are illegal, they claim it's, "interfering with the duties of a police officer"....

I'm waiting for Lidatek to come out with a laser garage parking sensor, that happens to jam police lasers as a side-benafit Then you could claim it was your parking device

 

Just to add to your info, there is more than one brand and model of police laser gun. Saying "the actual police laser gun" is like saying, "that louder exhaust you can buy for the G35".

Here is a very informative website that tells you, with no bull, about radar (Lidar) and laser detectors and jammers. I sat up in bed reading it for 4 hours one night. There is so much bull**** floating around that people believe and reiterate to others, but these guys really seem to know their stuff.

You misunderstood what I meant. I didn't mean it was the exact diode as is the part number from the gun. I meant it was a diode that emits a laser of the same wavelength as police laser. From what I heard, all manufacturers of police laser use the same frequency laser. Something like 904nm or something like that.

And just to be clear, when I said the "cheap" jammers used IR, I meant IR LEDs.

Kinda funny how the FDA controls a piece of electrical equipment. Perhaps the FDA should branch out into scalpals too...

I believe the phrase, "your illegal radar detector" came up once going through Nebraska. I could personally careless about "laws" such as this. I frown upon speeding tickets in general because they are just a way for a dept. to fund itself.

Notice I said "IR light" not LED and a laser is just a focused beam of light. :P My main point was what spectrum it operates in and that people use other devices that utilize light in this spectrum with no adverse side effects. Thus implying that these laws are in place to protect the income of police depts.

 

I tried getting a group buy together for the Lidatek awhile ago, but there wasn't enough interest. There is a local dealer near me that is willing to run a GB.

Radar Jammers by definition are illegal per the FCC. You need a licence to use them or a Radar speed gun.

Laser jammers DO NOT come under the FCC definition of an Radio Frequency device and therefore are legal UNLESS local State, County or City ordinances forbid it.
