need help with reversing

Everytime i am on a steep incline and try to reverse up the inline( for example when im parking) i always end up burning the clutch. If i let it out a little more it stalls. It has happened to me a couple of times and i try to avoid those situations.

i was wondering if anyone else had the same problem. The g has been the first manual car ive driven in like 2 years. i have driven a manual for a year or 2 before that.

any tips or answers to what i might be doing wrong.
thanks

not the tires the clutch. i'd be doing quite a lotta damage to the cars around me if i was burning my tires when parking. hehe

and exactly as u said i just rev up a little at half clutch and then release the clutch slowly

Re: need help with reversing

thats exactly what i do just incase i stall. i will jsut give u a senario of what happened yesterday. i was parking on the side of this street which was going downhill. found a spot on very end of the road and had 3-4 empty parking spots. i turn into the side and align the car and then reverse up the hill in topmost spot. while i was reversing up that is when i smell the clutch.

and this only happens when i reverse. i can pretty much bring the car to a complete stop on an incline just by using the clutch and 1st gear( no handbreak.........unless its a light and i get tired of waiting )

Only in reverse eh? I got a big hill going up to my school but I never tried going up it backwards yet. =)

Re: need help with reversing

Starting up a hill in forward or reverse always ends up in extra clutch wear, unless you dump it (which is arguably worse). There is really nothing you can do except try to find the rev and parking brake combination that lets you fully let out the clutch as quickly as possible.

Remember, with the clutch depressed (partially engaged), it controls the driveshaft speed, not the throttle.

I think you just need to practice a little. I think the reverse gear ratio is slightly different than 1st gear. It just takes practice. I think you should just practice reverse on flat ground then slowly move up to steeper incline.
