Oil Change Interval for Weekend Car....

How often should I change my oil if I only drive my car on weekends and about 4000 miles per year only? If I change it every 3750 miles as per the maintenance schedule, that comes out to once a year.

3-4 months I would imagine would be best... just so that you don't get any deposits in the engine...

oil will degrade with time regardless of miles once it has been run...change it every couple of months to be safe

I definitely thought once a year would not be very good for the car. However, if I do it every 3 months, there will literally be only about 1000 miles between oil changes. I guess I'll just do it every 6 months then.

Mine is like yours, about 4k/year, all highway miles. I just change it every 3k which is about 9 months. I wouldn't worry about the time interval as long as you're not doing a lot of city stop and go driving.

It would seem that every 6 months would be fine. At $30/oil change, it isn't too much more than doing it every 9 months.

I have same situation, G is my weekend ride. I use synthetic oil and change it at least every six months. Synth formulations are suppossed to be less corrosive on the internal parts because they leave a better film on the upper engine components. Dino will drain down and leave those parts exposed...and will be tougher on start-up. At least that's how I understand it.

LMG_35C, Have you heard of Mobil 1's synthetic extended oil? According to one of their commercial's, you can change the oil once a year. It costs about a $1 more a quart over the standard synthetic Mobil 1.
I'm thinking about buying it. What are your thoughts on it?

You do the same in yours as I do in my M. I change it spring and fall, but with the long life oil you could probably go the whole year.
To be safe, tho, I'd do it spring and fall.
