I am looking for a car and I really like the G35 coupe but if I get the coupe I really want a 6MT. There is another car I like and that is the new Lexus IS250/350. If I got the Lex I would want the 350 for the power but the 350 only comes in auto so it got me thinking would the G35 be good in auto?
Ok enough ranting, Has anyone driven the G35 AUTO AND the IS250/350 AUTO? How much of a difference was there? What was the difference? Does the Auto G35 have enough power?

I've driven them all, and bought a G35 6MT.Originally Posted by brianbat420

I really liked the G35 5AT, but prefer stick (my last car was a 350Z 6MT).
The IS250 is nice, but sluggish. The IS350 is fast, but overpriced and has ZERO steering feel (it's like playing Playstation... you have no road feel at all). Lexus makes a good auto tranny, but a garbage manual.
Stick with the G35 for better handling and a more satisfying drive.

I now own both a g35 6mt and a lexus is350. Once it is properly broken in I will put it to the paces, but from my multiple spirited test drives this car is no floater like other lexus vehicles. I'm not like other members who are infiniti or death types, a good car is a good car no matter the maker. My other lexus vehicles I've owned I never had issues that I have had with my g but that still doesnt take away from the fact I love my G and its a great car.

This is what I have read so I am still stuck where I was before, The only reason I am even thinking about the G Auto is because they tend to be 5-10k cheaper. Originally Posted by 350Zed

I guess is it worth it to buy a 6mt with higher miles and older for the joy ( which I do LOVE by the way) or go with the newer, cleaner, and lower miles for a lower price?
I will probably still go with the 6mt because I Love a stick but I HATE wondering what could be

lexus is a great reliable car....and without a doubt there nice....the g is also a great reliable car with a few minor issues 6mt espcially....thats gorgeous looking IMO. as far as performance goes straight line the is350 would win, handeling i would say def goes to the G. The only thing that i see the is having only the G is 4 doors.
Nice car either way you go.

I guess it all comes down to what is available and which is cheaper when I am going to buy Originally Posted by logik05se

I was deciding, like you, between the 06 G35 Coupe and the IS350 when I was buying my car. The IS250 is nice but it was definitely lacking power with its price tag. I test drove a AT G35c and it had the active steering and sport suspension so I tried to gun it through turns as fast as it could handle and it was pretty good. The acceleration was only alright (IMO) though, it felt sluggish probably because it's an auto and it felt kinda heavy too. But at the time I still liked it and I could get one for about ~$37000 with premium package, sport-tuned suspension and Nav.
When the IS350 first came out, I found it to be a little too expensive and so the G35 coupe would be the better buy. However, as I got closer to buying a car, I found out a nicely equipped IS350 with NAV can be had for under $38,000. Lexus' Nav was better than the G35's as it had touch screen, voice recognition and a backup camera. So I test drove the IS350 and it had plenty of power from any speed, so it was definitely faster than an AT G35 coupe. After some serious thinking, I went with the IS350 instead of the AT G35 coupe because I felt it was a better value at around $38k and the fact that a new redesigned G35 coupe will be out sometime next year.
I am also not a Lexus-only fanatic as my old car was a Mercedes-Benz and I looking into a BMW or a Porsche in the future. The G35 coupe is a very sexy car and the better handling car out of the two, as we all know, and I can definitely see why others choose it over the IS350. Different people have different wants/needs when purchasing a car and the IS350 fitted me better. With that said, I'll be happy with a G35 coupe too and it's great exhaust note

^^^A close friend of mine has an IS350. I drove it the other day with 3 other passengers in the car. I just gotta say...the power between that car and my auto G35 is ridiculous. Even with 4 people in the car, i know his car is faster than mine. There was another thread on this forum about some G35 sedan owner thinking he could beat an IS350 and basically everyone on this forum disagreed. The only downside to the IS is that the ride is sooo smooth and quiet that you get no enjoyment from driving it. If you want something fun to drive, definitely go with a G. If you want more speed for your money then go with the IS.

for the sound and the sleek styling I prefer the G, hands down.
and yeah, 6MT or nothing. I learned on it and will never look back

There are a lot of apples and oranges comparisons going on in this thread....comparing various cars.
First of all comparing a G Coupe to any 4 door sedans is no comparison. The coupe is in a class by itself. Also, the topic of the G coupe in automatic vs. 6MT has been discussed to death on G35Driver.com. The fact is that the automatic on the G coupe is excellant and the 1/4 mile times between the 2 are very close - closer than in most cars. It is just a matter of preference on whether to shift or not - you give up very little in performance. If you are considering an automatic G I would not hesitate for a second - get it.
Also in comparing G & IS sedans, remember most G sedans only have 260 hp, so comparing them to an IS350 with 306hp, the G would seem slower. I would bet a comparison to a 298hp G sedan or coupe would not yield much difference. Even the 280 hp G's apparently are just as fast as the 298hp versions - so watch what you are comparing to.
Bottom line is that they are all good cars - but comparing the 4 door sedans to the coupe make no sense - coupe is a different animal!

if youre going to get a g35, i suggest you get it in stick.
if not, then the driving involvement, feedback, etc isnt paramount to you. in that case, you should get the is350 because you'll get more refinement, comfort, and speed... which would make up for the involvement/feedback/etc you didnt care that much for to begin with.
