TOP SPEED with new ECU?
What is the top speed for the coupe with the updated ecu?
Base coupe is 156mph so i am wondering what if any higher speed is possible?
The fastest i ever gone was 145 on federal hwy in Ft. Lauderdale.... Through the tunnel... i caught air coming out.... it was like 4 in the am and my group of friends had closed the road off from traffic while we played around! "were not stupid"
No one be stupid and try this in area's not suitable for it!
Peace

Re: TOP SPEED with new ECU?
I've been reading up on My350Z forum about that, and they figure somewhere in the 170-175 MPH area. I believe someone has done 160 something in their Z tho not verified.
I would think at that speed it takes a lot of hp to overcome wind resistance.
Incidently someone posted that they did 209MPH on their bike!!!!!!!!!!!---- Insane.

Re: TOP SPEED with new ECU?
Yeah i have seen things on the Discovery channel about people riding bikes behind really fast cars with wind deflectors.... it creates a slipstream for the rider to ride in.... that is plain and simply f*cking insane to ride a bike at 150+mph!
Anyone else know top speeds in the coupe, or z?

Re: TOP SPEED with new ECU?
This slipstream effect works in the following way. As a single car races around a track, it creates a "bubble" of high-density air in front of it and a bubble of low-density air behind. The difference in the pressure between these two air pockets creates drag, the force that impedes motion. This drag force limits the top speed the car can attain. But if a second car pulls up behind the first, the slipstreams created by the the two merge so that the first car losses its aft bubble and the second car loses its front bubble. This effect reduces the drag force each car experiences and both are able to travel slightly faster.
However, drafting isn't limited to the world of motor sports alone. Runners, bicyclers, and inline skaters also employ the technique, but in a slightly different way. While racecar drivers use drafting to increase their speed, their non-motor sports counterparts emphasize reducing energy consumption. A runner utilizes drafting by following closely behind an opponent. The opponent breaks the headwind and creates a slipstream in his wake where the second runner can get by exerting less energy while still maintaining the same speed. In a marathon race, this technique may save 5 to 10 seconds per mile.
As for riding a bike at 150+ MPH, it's even better at 170 MPH! (01 Ducati 996, highest top speed recorded by GPS to date was 171).

That sounds a bit optimistic to me. Considering my Z06 tops out at 175 MPH with 405hp and the cars have similar aerodynamics and cd's. Actually, the base C5 Coupe has a faster top speed than the Z06 at about 180 MPH, even though it has only 350hp, but it's due to gearing differences and better aerodynamics with the longer rear window.
But to get 170-175MPH out of 287hp is a bit of a stretch. 155-160 MPH sounds more reasonable to me.

Re: TOP SPEED with new ECU?
like u said gearing makes a big difference so i dont see why 170 would not be out of teh question. we know we can do 156 for sure and there is a lot left on the RPM band so would say 170 is deffently a good posiblitly. the problem with testing it is the fast that our speedos wont be acurate at that kinda speed. you would need to use a gps system or somthing to get an accuate speed. 280 should be enough to get us to 170 and the CD is super low so i dont see why not.

Z06ified, It does sound optimistic, but just repeating what I've read. Besides as Carlos says, the speedos aren't too accurate at those speeds.
I wouldn't be surprised if the cars will top 160 or more with an ECU upgrade.
Nuttyprof-- I think you'll find the 'W' rated Michelin Sport Pilots (18") are rated to 168MPH. I'm not sure what the 17's are rated at.
Heck of a speed to be relying on any tires! Not for me.

Re: TOP SPEED with new ECU?
According to the CarTest program in 6th gear a stock G will be traveling at 155MPH @ at 5300 RPMs and top out at ungoverned 162MPH @ 5550 RPMs. If the G had 300HP it would top out at 166MPH @ 5700 RPMs. And if the G had enough power to redline in 6th gear at 6600 RPMs it would be max out at 194MPH

Re: TOP SPEED with new ECU?
Reread my post; I said if the G coupe 6MT had enough power like (i.e at least 500HP) it would have enough power to overcome wind resistance and it could redline in 6th gear at 6600RPMs (on the stock rev-limiter) and top out at about 194 MPH on the stock 18” rims and same tire sizes.
With 300HP it wouldn’t have enough power to overcome the wind resistance to redline it in 6th gear, so it would be limited by air drag and top out at 166MPH at around 5700RPMs give or take depending on the outside elements.
And also all those speed can vary if you have different set of rims and tires, road conditions, weather, altitude, etc…

I'm terrible at conversions, but I believe that's over 200MPH! In a tunnel to boot!
Enjoy...
