Red face Exhaust and Intake?

Guys,

I know.... 2 questions in 2 posts....I'll try to keep it to a minimum.

Anyway, With about $1500 to spend, I am looking into the Fast Intentions exhaust and the Stillen intake. I have been speaking with Tony over at FI, and he has been really helpful. My 2004 G35 coupe is bone stock as of right now, but I have the mod bug. I used to have a 2003 Mustang Cobra (yes, the supercharged one, had about 10k into it... 617 rwhp, wrapped it around a tree.....long story). I want a reasonably fast car, good sounding, etc.

Someone talk me into this. I seriously think that once I start I won't be able to stop. The reason I am looking into the FI exhaust is that it is not too loud, PROVEN horsepower increase, nice sounding overall, and excellent quality.

Same for the Stillen intake. I have not been able to find dynos from bone stock to compare, but is the intake and Z-tube a good combo? I really don't want to waste $250 on something just for sound....that is a joke.

Thanks alot for all your replies.

Don

i have the z tube and stillen combo...you will not feel the difference in power because its such a minimal gain..this mod is really for sound more than power...invest in a 5/16 motordyne plenum spacer..your car will pull slightly harder

truthfully though, i used to have an 05 auto max and swore the intake did nothing at all....put the jwt pop charger/ztube on my g basicly just for the sound and not for nothing it does actually make the car move a little better.

And im not nutz because I did some runs against my friends altima se-r with and without inake and the diffrence was without a doubt there, even he said it.

But its not that serious either, just helps a little and sounds sick.

The compliment one another...........

Generally exhaust systems like the Stillen true-dual
system dyno at +14 HP. When you add Stillens CAI,
Z-Tube and MotorDynes spacer ISO your complimenting the exhaust system and adding HP.
Yes, the sound changes but you can really feel the
diffrence in performance.

Question

Yea, I know. The Cobra was crazy. I have NEVER felt such a hard pulling car. I never got a chance to drag it at 617 rwhp, but at 460 rwhp, I pulled a 12.21@119.57 with a 2.0 60' time on STREET tires. Not only was the car wicked fast, it was easy as hell to launch too! I know that the G35 will never even come close to a 12.2 (not even with a turbo), but I bought the G because I was getting a bit older and I needed a car that was more refined, and I have to say, the G35 handles like it's on rails compared to the Cobra.

So the FI exhaust and Stillen is a decent start, huh?

A plenum spacer requires me to take off the engine cover right? Any recommendations on a spacer? What is the MREV by the way? I only know Ford stuff....sorry.

Wow, just read my post. I know I would have to take the motor cover off for a spacer.....duh. I meant permanently remove it due to clearance issues. Would the 5/16" cause me to have to do this?

Crawford plenum WOULD require you to remove your engine cover permanently...some of us just use the bottom half of engine cover by cutting the cover.... as for 5/16 motordyne spacer, as far as I know, you can keep your engine cover with it (somebody correct me if I'm wrong)

Edit ~ PS: Our car doesn't respond to bolt-on quite well...since you acknowledge that you might get into FI, you may start with 3" exhaust

Thanks for the replies guys.

I AM NOT going to go FI, been there, done that. I don't even know of a reputable tuner for G35's in the NJ area, and frankly, I don't want to waste the hours of my life reading and comparing tuners in the area.

Now I am reading about MREV and MREV2.... from what I gather, I do not have a Rev-Up motor because I am a 2004 6MT. Is that correct? Hence, I already have an MREV? I read that the guys with the 298 hp engine get the MREV2 (which is a modified 03-04 intake?), and get good gains from it?

Man, this japanese stuff is killing me. It's like learning a new language.

My Cobra responded so greatly with a CAI and cat-back exhaust, it was incredible. There were reports of the Cobras gaining like 10 rwhp from just a CAI, and like 20 rwhp from a cat-back. I wish this car was like that.

5/16" Motordyne plenum spacer allows you to still put your engine cover back on. I have one and it fits perfectly fine...but I kept it off because I think it looks better.

Btw, I give you much respect for doing your homework and using the 'search' button. Many people new to this forum ask redundant questions without even searching for answers first.
