traded my 04 auto coupe for an 06 6mt need advice and help
ok well now im on my third day and i got shifting and hills coverd
my only last problem is how can i get in to first quick and drive fast and smotth because i cant seem to get into first without going slowly and if i go fast the car kicks back and i have to depress the clutch again
can all this stalling and burning ruined my clutch after 3 days?
how do i check my clutch?
also is it normal for you to hear the gears shift like a medal clinging sound?
and is it normal for the stick to feel a shacky and vibrate?

When starting from a stop, put the car into 1st with the clutch fully pressed in. Give the car a little throttle, you want the engine to spin around 1,000-1,200rpm's. Start letting the clutch out slowly and then when the car starts to lurch forward, the rpm's are going to drop a bit. During this timing, you want to apply just a tad more gas as you continue to let the clutch out fully. Starting from a stop will always be slow unless you want to do launches (launches can be gentle, too).
When in gear and accelerating, the clutch petal should be fully released! When making shifts, a lot of us let off the gas and push the clutch in, make the shift, and then apply just a touch of gas while letting the clutch out. This should smoothen out the shift and make it easier for you.
As for hills, try shifting into first and pulling the E-Brake up and letting off the brake, using the E-brake to hold the car in place. Start engaging first gear and gently pull the e-brake down and the car won't roll back and should make starting off on a hill really easy.

now if i want to take off quickly like in a race or sumthin how do i do it?
(not paning on racing but i would like to know the techniqe)

^ No its not ruining your clutch that bad. I was the same way when I first got mine. I now have 51,000+ miles on my original clutch and it still works great. No slipping whatsoever. The more you drive you will learn at what point your clutch engages, and driving will become second nature. You will never want another auto again. Have fun with it, and stop worrying.
lol thanks dudes
im driving alright nowadays but i noticed giving it a little gas before i release the cluth in first helps alot
and again what rpm do i hold for a fast take off when racing
just curious

If you feel the car is not accelerating anymore at a certain rpm then just shift. Or just do what everyone does and shift about 500 rpm before redline. There is a rev limiter on the car so you don't have to worry about redlining it.
Just release the clutch slowly until it's all the way up. It's not rocket science to drive a stick. Just drive the car where you will be comfortable at and don't drive it like you're Mario Andretti.

Resting your foot on the clutch, even if your not pressing, will probably burn the HELL out of your clutch (ie. Having the clutch on friction point while your moving at a high rate of speed will destroy it if you do it long enough). You may not even notice it. Our cars have high engagement points, so even a bit of pressure on the clutch will get you to the friction point.
The safest thing to do is just have your foot over the clutch in the ready position (about 1 inch off the pedal).

Was just reading this thread. I'm a manual driver for about 7 years now and just got my G35 about 2 weeks ago. I didn't find it a hard transition to start driving this car with such a high friction point. I read what you guys wrote about fully releasing the clutch into first gear at about 1-1200 rpm. My car idles low at about 550rpm and I'm able to get into first gear fully by about 900 rpm. It's a pretty smooth seamless transition and the car doens't seem to stall. Is my car just different or I should be revving higher? Thanks

The manual has recommend shift points. They give it in mph but it amounts to shifting around 2,000rpm for "normal" acceleration and 3,500 for "fast" acceleration. These are probably the points they are using when they give the estimated gas mileage, so if you're burning alot of fuel try to shift closer to these.

The advice that I gave to my girlfriend when I was teaching her was to bring the rpm to your desired point (around 2000 rpm) with the clutch pedal fully pressed down. Now slowly let of the clutch pedal and give gas if necessary to keep the rpm around 2000. Once you get moving, smoothly get on the gas and fully release the clutch at the same time.
Remember the higher the rpm you start out with, the more likely you are going to break your rear tires loose when launching. Practice launching at a lower rpm, then slowly increase your rpm until you reach your desired point.
No matter howmuch advice you get you wont perfect it till a month a half. Just keep doing it and youll get the feel for it. BTW shifting at rpms to race, the guy at the dealership i talked to supposedly had a integra type r sumthing like that supercharged n all that good stuff. He said to get maximum power shift at 6k rpm to get the most torque out of the gear. true or not true?
Had my 03 on the dyno and it didn't start to fall off till after red line.
Can't really race with the vdc engaged, but be very careful turning this off before you are ready cause these cars get tail happy, and quick.
