traded my 04 auto coupe for an 06 6mt need advice and help

hey guys,

most of you know me, i had an 04 5at ivory pearl coupe

i traded it in yesterday for a new fully fully black on graphite 6mt coupe

this is my first car on stick, i cant drive stick too well so can ppl please give me advice:

what rpm do i switch for a soft shift

how far do i release the clutch after i shift up

how do i handel hills

whats the best rpm to switch at when maxing the car out or racing (not planing on it but curious) 7500? 6800?

whats power shifting?

what should i not do to burn the clutch?

By the way, how much money did you lost at the trade like that?

what rpm do i switch for a soft shift

---around 3.5 - 4k rpm

how far do i release the clutch after i shift up

---After you finish shifting, you should release all the way. you can put your foot on it, but don't press it.

how do i handel hills

--- If for example, if you stopped at a stop sign on a up hill, make sure you add little gas before you let go the clutch, so it engages much easier without stalling.

whats the best rpm to switch at when maxing the car out or racing (not planing on it but curious) 7500? 6800?

---Anywhere before the redline

whats power shifting?
what should i not do to burn the clutch?

-- ride on clutch burn it badly. when stop at red light, put it in neutral, and let go your clutch.

thanks so much man but as for the maxing part what rom gives u the most top speed to switch at caus ei know if u swutch at a certain rpm u get a little more power

AND AS FOR SOFT SHIFTING FOR EXAMPLE WHEN I SWITCH From FIRST TO SECOND I :

REALEASE the gas, depress the clutch, shift to second, release the clutch 100%, and press the gas
(when i do that the car jerks, whereas when i shift to second and release the clutch slowly while pressing the gas lightly, the shift is soft. so how is it possible to fully realease the clutch, then press gas and shift softly?)

You will reach the maximum torque on the car before you hit the redline. So shifting at high rpm is more like feeling the car. If you feel the car is not accelerating anymore at a certain rpm then just shift. Or just do what everyone does and shift about 500 rpm before redline. There is a rev limiter on the car so you don't have to worry about redlining it.

Just release the clutch slowly until it's all the way up. It's not rocket science to drive a stick. Just drive the car where you will be comfortable at and don't drive it like you're Mario Andretti.

Don't worry about speed just yet. Learn how to launch and shift smoothly everytime first. Release the clutch slowly while gently pressing the gas pedal. Once the clutch reaches the friction zone, car starts moving, continue slowly releasing the clutch and at the same time give it more gas. Beginners tend to forget the clutch at that point and just let go and usually forget to add more gas. Once you practice and figure out the friction zone, and remember to slowly release the clutch and add gas it will become second nature. Shifting is the same process. As you figure it out, you will start doing it faster and smoother. Good luck and enjoy.

Anytime you're holding the clutch you're using it. You can burn it by holding it unnecessarily. Try to avoid holding the clutch at mid point. Just keep releasing it very slowly if you have to, but let go of the clutch as soon as you can as the car moves.

I took only one class ($55/class) in long island when I started learning stick...I remember I stalled so many times, the instructor was not too happy.

I suggest you do that before you buring the clutch of your G (Expensive clutch).

once you get the basics, it's all matter of practice.

thenight thanx for ur help

by the way i notice ur in staten island, i own the nextel/sprint store on richmond avenue by the mall. if u ever need anyhting just stop by and ask for danny

for everyone else thanks for ur help a bunch

i got shifting down but my main question is, is it bad to give it gas while im still holding the clutch 20 percent, i notice its smoother of a shif when in the begging of acceleration i do not fully release the clutch then slowwly release it.

also anybody have a number for a class i can take nearby, i live in brooklyn, NY

no its not bad, its called feathering the clutch. when going from gear 1 to gear 2 dont drop your clutch and gas it. As your letting go of the clutch start to gas (as if one smooth motion). the worst you can burn your clutch is when your starting off on first and you gas alot and hold the clutch halfway. try to practice starting off and not letting your RPM go over 1200 when catching the gear. class is a waste of money.

im doin well and shiftin soft i learned to catch the cluth and not stall in first but i never really fully releasr the clutch on first because i get to second. i guess im feathering the clutch because when i shift up to any gear i dont release the clutch until about 2000rpm, is that ok?

oh and im still having really big trouple on going uphill on red lights, i stall like crazy with cars behind me , help

i shift my gears at 2500 rpm, i get good miles that way, but if i want to have a little fun with my car then i will shift 3500 rpm. But if some punk in BMW is trying to mess with me then I will bring it up to 5000 rpm to see what he got. I haven't really redline my car yet.

go to a parking and just practice starting and stopping. practice feathering the clutch in and out as you give it throttle. for hills, while i'm on the brake i start to let the cltuch out just until i can feel it start to grab and push back to the point where it not pullin on the car, that way once I release the brake and get on the gas I already have intial clutch engagement right there. just practice practice practice. you picked a tough car to learn on.
