Sedan Rental Faster??

You know...the last few times i've taken my car in for service and gotten a rental for the day, I've noticed that the auto Sedan I get "feels" faster and torquier than my 6mt coupe.

The midrange seems to pull more aggressively than it would in my coupe.

My only reasonings for this is because it's stock and I've done more breathing mods that may have sacrificed some lowend and midrange grunt? The powerband can't be that different, right?

Just curious if anyone else has this same feeling?

You are not efficient in driving a stick--that is my first guess. I felt the same way the first time I had a sedan loaner, when I was new to the manual tranny. Now, I feel that auto's are subpar.

Like I said, just guessing.

The mods are a possibility. Not sure what year 6MT you have, but if it's '05-later then less torque is exactly what you're feeling, as the other motor produces more of it that the '05-later 6MT RevUp motor.

In addition, the sedan is lighter.

I had an 06 sedan loaner late last year, 5AT. And it felt torquier. But that thing just gave up after 4500 to 5k rpms.

And being that I currently have a sedan, the weight wasn't a factor.

You know, even as a sedan owner, I'm tired of reading that last bit. We're not talking 500 pounds of difference here...

And that's not directed at you man, just the sedan/coupe weight difference argument in general.

Isn't it around 150-200lbs or so lighter? Granted, it's not a ton, but it's significant enough to feel a difference. I'd certainly like to drop that.

But, more significant, is the TQ difference between the two motors. I'm sure that's the bulk of it, but without knowing for certain if he has a RevUp, the difference in weight was worth mentioning.

FWIW, as a coupe owner, I'm also tired of hearing about the sedan being lighter.

And I believe the sedan is only about 50lbs or so lighter than the coupe...based on someone's previous post in the linked thread.

And btw...I have an 04 so it's the same non-Revup motor as the sedan I drove.

Oh I wish it were that significant. I don't know the differences for 03 or 04 to the pound, but I've read it's roughly 100lbs, though I doubt it's that high. For the 05 6MT's, the "published" curb weights were identical between coupe and sedan. For 06, I believe the coupe gained a little more than the sedan, but it's marginal.

its a 40lb difference.... nothing that sedan owners should gloat about. the 5at is higher because it has more tq off the line.

I don't want this to become some Sedan vs Coupe, which is better debate

I liked the extra low/midrange grunt from the Sedan. I was just pointing out that my coupe didn't feel the same after I got it back. Even though they're the same engines...they didn't completely feel the same, though you'd think they would.
