Trunk - inside handle for closing?? Fingerprints!!

have an 06 Coupe - does anyone else think that it's totally bad engineering that they didn't put a grab handle for trunk closure on the inside of the deck lid???
I HATE having to touch the top of the trunk/spoiler whenever i want to close it - and leaving fingerprints on my nicely cleaned black paint!!!

ugh! anyone have any clever solutions to this???

Bad engineering?? Have you seen any car with a handle for the trunk? I've only seen handles on SUVs and minivans. How about the gas door? Should they have put a pull **** on there so you don't get fingerprints there also?!?

I feel your pain. I just got my car the other day and noticed this as well. With my Acura if I hit the trunk release the trunk would pop all the way up and closing was just a very light touch with my sleeve, but with this car there is a certain amount of effort required to lift and close.
I think the weight of the spoiler may be the issue actually. Either way I can live with it. Everything else is so nice

obviously you've not owned too many cars, or luxury cars at any rate - b/c MANY cars ( not SUVs) have an inside pull handle for the trunk, look at any bmw, lexuz, benzo, audi...the list goes on - i've owned audis and lexus in the recent past and am really surprised that g35 does not have this simple feature. You just simply grab that handle more or less fling the trunk lid down...no need to touch the outside of the trunk/spoiler and get nasty finger prints on your freshly washed ride!

It requires effort because you have to close it against the gas struts. If you notice, there are no hinges or hardware inside the trunk area, which gives you more trunk space. Honda/Acura uses the traditional swing arms with rod springs underneath. With those, you have to be careful when you pack a trunk to be sure it clears.

You're right, I haven't owned ANY car with a handle on trunk. But like I said above, the handle probably wouldn't do too much good against the gas struts (trunk not flingable).

This is a PIA................

That has been an issue with me since I first drove my
G home. With the struts you can't just apply light
pressure to close the lid. To make one thing clear I
wouldn't buy a sedan just to get the handle. I'd
rather carry a rag in my pocket............

This is the same for the '04 coupe that I have. I made a ghetto modification that fixes this problem. I got some cord, I think it's actually a shoelace, but anything will do and looped it to make a grab handle. I tied it around a screw with a washer. I took out one of the plastic clips that holds the trunk liner to the trunk lid, and inserted the screw into that hole, and voila! Instant trunk lid pull. My pull is a little long, so I put a piece of velcro (the hook part) onto the cord so I can stick it onto the trunk liner. When I close my trunk, I pull the cord until the trunk is halfway closed. Stick the cord to the trunk liner, then push the trunk lid closed using the Infiniti emblem. No more fingerprints on the lower edge of the trunk lid.

haa!! see? this is the kind of 'instant fix' that i was looking for - or i guess i could just wear a cotton glove whenever i want to use the trunk. now THAT would be ghetto!!

I think this is a bit overboard... worried about finger prints? I could see if your car is filthy dirty after a rain, snow or pollen season and you dont want to get your hands covered in dirt from the car ... but because you dont want finger prints?

If finger prints are such an issue, understand with OB, just carry a small micro fiber cloth in your pocket.
Just wipe the prints off after closing the trunk and while you're at it, you can wipe the prints off every time you grab the door handle getting in your ride too.
Otherwise you just need to live with it or hire a Butler wearing gloves. j/k
